caused something of a surprise as he made a winning return from 5 months off, at least as good as anything he's shown since coming to Britain; patiently ridden, travelled fluently, smooth progress over 2f out, led inside final 1f, idled close home, ridden out; isn't an obvious type to follow up.

is a quirky sort but has plenty of ability and is going through a good spell at the moment; held up, travelled well, progress over 2f out, close up entering final 1f, ran on as winner idled late.

probably had the run of things to some extent when only just beaten on first try over this trip 8 days ago (modest timefigure) and didn't convince with his stamina for this trip in the mud on this occasion, shaping as if still in good form; chased leader, challenged over 1f out, no extra inside final 1f, outstayed.

is possibly unsuited by soft ground, having that excuse for both handicap starts to date; mid-division, pushed along 3f out, dropped away after 2f out; she remains unexposed and will be worth a chance back on a quicker surface, maybe even the all-weather.

Run-of-the-mill fare but it was a truly-run race in which there seemed no tactical advantage and the result looks solid enough.

GAELIC SILVER (FR) caused something of a surprise as he made a winning return from 5 months off, at least as good as anything he's shown since coming to Britain; patiently ridden, travelled fluently, smooth progress over 2f out, led inside final 1f, idled close home, ridden out; isn't an obvious type to follow up.

YUL FINEGOLD (IRE) is a quirky sort but has plenty of ability and is going through a good spell at the moment; held up, travelled well, progress over 2f out, close up entering final 1f, ran on as winner idled late.

BERTIE MOON was back to near his best returned to Windsor after 11 weeks off, belatedly proving that he is as effective in the mud as on firmish ground; made running, shaken up over 2f out, headed inside final 1f, edged right, kept on.

SPACE WALKER (IRE) probably had the run of things to some extent when only just beaten on first try over this trip 8 days ago (modest timefigure) and didn't convince with his stamina for this trip in the mud on this occasion, shaping as if still in good form; chased leader, challenged over 1f out, no extra inside final 1f, outstayed.

ART SCHOLAR (IRE) wasn't disgraced but but failed to repeat latest effort and hasn't won since the November Handicap almost 2 years ago now; held up, not settle fully, effort 3f out, kept on steadily, admittedly without being unduly punished once principals had asserted.

DALGIG was below form in first-time hood on first outing since leaving Jamie Osborne; mid-division, driven 2f out, hung left, faded; he'll no doubt be over hurdles soon given the stable he's joined.

URBAN SPACE found run of good form coming to a halt, possibly found race coming too soon having won on testing ground at Bath only 9 days ago; chased leaders, weakened over 1f out.

WATTS UP SON ran poorly; chased leaders, lost place after 3f out; something to prove at present.

CHORAL FESTIVAL seems to be in a lull for now; raced off the pace, effort 3f out, never on terms.

SONG AND DANCE MAN offered little after 8 months off; dwelt, always behind.
