had fitness on her side over her 2 market rivals, a winner less than 3 weeks earlier, and these conditions were perfect for her, the emphasis very much on speed which is her big asset, and just like at Kempton she oozed class, comfortable at every stage, just a case of when McGrath pushed the button up the straight; in touch, travelled strongly, challenged between last 2, jumped on last, drew clear quickly, pushed out; it'll require more still stepping into Grade 1 races later in the season but she is thriving/progressing this term and the Christmas Hurdle ought to play to her strengths.

missed the spring festivals in his novice season with a setback, having created a big impression with 3 unbeaten races to start life over hurdles, and given his absence/relative inexperience this was a big comeback effort, shaping well behind a thriving, race-fit rival; prominent, travelled well, every chance when untidy 2 out, led briefly before last, not fluent there, kept on, not unduly punished; this is entitled to bring him on plenty in all regards and he remains a horse to follow.

who was unbeaten for this stable as a juvenile, possibly needed the run to some extent after 7 months off but also just lacked the pace of the pair that beat him and it's likely that his future lies over further, as mentioned after his Aintree win last season; led, pushed along between 3 out and 2 out, headed before last, no extra run-in; he's still a good prospect.

won a Grade 2 as a juvenile but this was his biggest test yet and he wasn't up to it; in touch, pushed along end of back straight, outpaced from 2 out, never landed a blow.

With a pair highly promising novices from last season - If The Cap Fits and We Have A Dream - meeting with a smart, in-form mare in Verdana Blue this was a competitive renewal of the Elite even with only 7 lining up and in a race that wasn't notably influenced by tactics or luck it was that trio that dominated matters.

VERDANA BLUE (IRE) had fitness on her side over her 2 market rivals, a winner less than 3 weeks earlier, and these conditions were perfect for her, the emphasis very much on speed which is her big asset, and just like at Kempton she oozed class, comfortable at every stage, just a case of when McGrath pushed the button up the straight; in touch, travelled strongly, challenged between last 2, jumped on last, drew clear quickly, pushed out; it'll require more still stepping into Grade 1 races later in the season but she is thriving/progressing this term and the Christmas Hurdle ought to play to her strengths.

IF THE CAP FITS (IRE) missed the spring festivals in his novice season with a setback, having created a big impression with 3 unbeaten races to start life over hurdles, and given his absence/relative inexperience this was a big comeback effort, shaping well behind a thriving, race-fit rival; prominent, travelled well, every chance when untidy 2 out, led briefly before last, not fluent there, kept on, not unduly punished; this is entitled to bring him on plenty in all regards and he remains a horse to follow.

WE HAVE A DREAM (FR) who was unbeaten for this stable as a juvenile, possibly needed the run to some extent after 7 months off but also just lacked the pace of the pair that beat him and it's likely that his future lies over further, as mentioned after his Aintree win last season; led, pushed along between 3 out and 2 out, headed before last, no extra run-in; he's still a good prospect.

REDICEAN won a Grade 2 as a juvenile but this was his biggest test yet and he wasn't up to it; in touch, pushed along end of back straight, outpaced from 2 out, never landed a blow.

SMAOINEAMH ALAINN (IRE) was flying too high in this grade; prominent, ridden early in straight, weakened between last 2.

JOHN CONSTABLE (IRE) was never on terms but didn't appear to have a hard race and the aim may well be some valuable handicap hurdles later in the season.
