after 8 weeks off, had gone down narrowly to the subsequent Pertemps third on his previous start and went one better in determined fashion, in all likelihood needing to do nothing more than run to the same form; in touch, went prominent eighth, ridden end of back straight, stayed on to lead after 2 out, responded well; he's got a likeable attitude and it's probably not just coincidence that he's steered clear of bad ground so far.

back over hurdles, ended up running creditably but, as usual, there was more than just a laboured element to his effort; made running, reminders soon after start, untidy third, fourth, driven after ninth, headed approaching 3 out, stayed on again run-in.

was making his handicap debut in first-time cheekpieces and tongue strap after 10 weeks off and had every chance, travelling best but others seeing things out better, maybe not quite the stayer connections feel him to be; close up, produced to lead approaching 3 out, headed after 2 out, tied up run-in and lost second towards finish.
