had little trouble defying an 8 lb rise for Kelso, better than ever all of a sudden following a spell in the doldrums, looking set to win by more than 2 lengths for much of the way; handy, jumped impeccably, tanked along, led seventh, headed 5 out, led on bridle again next, shaken up run-in, ran on; he's tried several distances down the years but has always looked most effective around 2m, and higher-end handicaps at this sort of trip aren't so strong as their staying equivalents.

possibly still needed this run, certainly looking rusty again; in touch, went in snatches, effort out wide 5 out, left behind gradually straight; it wasn't until late-winter that he really began to thrive last season.
