continues to progress very well, a 10 lb rise in a better class of handicap mattering not as he hammered home all his key strengths, jumping far too quickly for most before proving far too speedy for the runner-up, in his element around a sharp track away from the mud; pressed leader, jumped fluently, challenged eighth, jumped on 3 out, quickened entering straight, ridden out; it's hard to believe it given his low-key history over hurdles but he'll be pushing a BHA mark of 150 after this.

turned in easily his best effort of the season, despite dropping to a trip shy of his best, giving cause to believe he's far enough back to capitalise on a much-reduced mark, aggressive tactics serving him well (settled better under different Moore); forced pace, joined eighth, lost momentum 3 out, left behind by winner entering straight, stuck to task; one to note for other handicaps this spring.

can have this run overlooked, having little go right in the race, short of room early and forced into more patient tactics as a result but moving into a clear third by the sixth only to slide badly on landing at the next when 5 lengths down, his race effectively over then.

A blend of differing profiles, all bar Duca de Thaix's interesting in one way or another, though only the front pair gave their running on the day, King d'Argent too speedy for his main rival when it mattered after their injection of pace in the back straight had forced a blunder from the only other one who'd been able to keep up.
