is improving in leaps and bounds, looking a decidedly useful prospect this time in going one better than on his last couple of starts, that run of placed efforts no reflection of his attitude judged on how he stood up to this demanding affair; held up, smooth headway circuit out, chased leader home turn, switched approaching 2 out, quickened in good style to lead before last, surged away, impressive; one to keep on the right side as he climbs the ranks.

confirmed his revival, doing everything right under another attacking ride and seen off only by an extremely progressive rival; forced pace, jumped fluently, went with zest, kicked on home turn, headed between last 2, kept on, no match for winner.

might have been expected to have benefited from an 8-week break (had breathing operation during absence) but proved even harder work, starting to look lazy as much as slow; in touch when lost ground first, never going well after, slow fourth, laboured headway approaching straight, went third last, stayed on; temperament under suspicion now anyway.

Around half the field either didn't shape well or just ran poorly but the lightly-raced winner - who took the on-song runner-up's measure with authority in what was a demanding race thanks to a good pace - would have taken some beating in a more competitive handicap.

CAPTAIN CARGO is improving in leaps and bounds, looking a decidedly useful prospect this time in going one better than on his last couple of starts, that run of placed efforts no reflection of his attitude judged on how he stood up to this demanding affair; held up, smooth headway circuit out, chased leader home turn, switched approaching 2 out, quickened in good style to lead before last, surged away, impressive; one to keep on the right side as he climbs the ranks.

DRIFTWOOD HAZE shaped as if still in form, not seeing out the longer trip as thoroughly as required; mid-division, took strong hold, effort when shaken up home turn, held when mistake last.
