had clearly faced a very stiff task attempting to concede 10 lb to subsequent Grade 1 winner Affordale Fury on his reappearance and confirmed all his ability is still intact in landing this race for a second year running 8 weeks on; chased leader, jumped/travelled fluently, jumped on 5 out, drew clear before last, won very comfortably.

was well backed and confirmed himself back in decent heart, the Topham at Aintree in April presumably his main target again; waited with, headway home turn, left behind by winner before last, not unduly punished.

notably easy to back once more, continues to bubble under, his season seemingly geared towards peaking in the Topham again; in touch, not fluent fifth, not fluent again when steadied into 3 out, left behind before last, not knocked about.

had something to find at the weights but ran below form even so; led, took keen hold, headed 5 out, pushed along 2 out, beaten when carried head awkwardly before last.

was again disappointing on the face of it back down in grade bearing in mind his reappearance promise, but it's possible even more patient tactics than usual backfired (far keener than ideal); waited with, pecked 5 out, slightly skew-whiff next, left behind after 2 out.

A field dominated by Mullins runners, a couple leaving the strong impression they are being brought along to peak later in the season, though the winner's performance still ranks among the best of his career, a commendable effort given his age.

APPRECIATE IT (IRE) had clearly faced a very stiff task attempting to concede 10 lb to subsequent Grade 1 winner Affordale Fury on his reappearance and confirmed all his ability is still intact in landing this race for a second year running 8 weeks on; chased leader, jumped/travelled fluently, jumped on 5 out, drew clear before last, won very comfortably.

JAMES DU BERLAIS (FR) was well backed and confirmed himself back in decent heart, the Topham at Aintree in April presumably his main target again; waited with, headway home turn, left behind by winner before last, not unduly punished.

GENTLEMAN DE MEE (FR) notably easy to back once more, continues to bubble under, his season seemingly geared towards peaking in the Topham again; in touch, not fluent fifth, not fluent again when steadied into 3 out, left behind before last, not knocked about.

MONBEG PARK (IRE) had something to find at the weights but ran below form even so; led, took keen hold, headed 5 out, pushed along 2 out, beaten when carried head awkwardly before last.

HERCULE DU SEUIL (FR) was again disappointing on the face of it back down in grade bearing in mind his reappearance promise, but it's possible even more patient tactics than usual backfired (far keener than ideal); waited with, pecked 5 out, slightly skew-whiff next, left behind after 2 out.
