on something of a retrieval mission after a frustrating campaign last term, didn't need to be anywhere near his best to make the most of a good opportunity after 8 months off, especially with his main market rival failing to fire, but there was still lots to like about this performance; mid-division, jumped well in main, took strong hold, went prominent 5 out, untidy 3 out, led on bridle soon after, won easily; the King George is likely to come under consideration now.

a wide-margin winner on point debut recently, shaped as if retaining all of his old ability; mid-division, lost place early final circuit, in touch approaching 3 out, challenged briefly 2 out, no match for winner.

wasn't well treated by the conditions of this race, but he might have needed the run after 6 months off; close up, pulled way to front sixth, headed 3 out, plodded on.

went backwards from reappearance, this surely too bad to be true; made running, headed sixth, remained prominent, weakened approaching home turn.

A fascinating listed chase that attracted 2 previous Cheltenham Festival winners, a Grade 3 novice winner and a former winner of the Troytown, but it wasn't so competitive as it promised to be, Footpad a cut above the opposition on the day.
