A Solario field much more about promise than proven ability, 5 of the 7 having won a novice or maiden last time out, only one of the field having contested a pattern event, the level coming into the race understandably below that usually required; a tactical race meant the field finished in a bit of a heap, the first 2 doing well the way things developed, producing contrasting performances having been upsides early in the straight, the winner with a better turn of foot, the runner-up finishing well, the pair running to a useful level, around standard for the race, the winner enhancing the fine record of the Gosden yard in this race, with Too Darn Hot, Raven's Pass and the winner's own sire Kingman the pick of its victors.

FIELD OF GOLD (IRE) had achieved more in winning his maiden than any of the others who had done similar and didn't need to find much improvement to follow up in a higher grade, still plenty to like about the way that he did so, his turn of foot making the difference over the runner-up, obviously worth his chance at a higher level, with the Lagardere a possible option; waited with, travelled well, shaken up under 2f out, quickened to lead 1f out, pushed out; sure to progress again and will win more races.

MATAURI BAY (IRE) built on debut promise, still showing signs of inexperience and lacking the winner's turn of foot at a crucial stage but finishing off well; waited with, shaken up over 2f out, ran green and had to angle off the inner, kept on well inside final 1f, best work finish; will be suited by 1m; he's not got the physical presence of the winner and third, but he will go on improving.

ROYAL PLAYWRIGHT up in grade, built on debut promise, lacking a turn of foot and perhaps likely to have done better setting a stronger pace; led, pushed along over 2f out, headed 1f out, one paced; will stay at least 1m; has plenty of scope, very much the type to make a better 3-y-o.

TIGER MASK (IRE) the one runner with experience in pattern company and the only one to have run more than twice previously, ran well but was beaten on merit, not good enough despite being well placed the way the race developed; close up, travelled well, shaken up 2f out, every chance 1f out, no extra final 50 yds.

HOTT SHOTT ran about as well as could have been expected upped in grade, the form of his win nothing out of the ordinary, though he looked at a disadvantage in a modestly-run race at 7f, likely that he will be capable of better when stepped up in trip, his physique suggesting he'll make an impact at 3 yrs; waited with, shaken up 2f out, hung right, plugged on.

VICTORY SOUND (IRE) after 10 weeks off, was found out in better company, the form of his maiden win some way behind most of the others, his effort lacking a turn of foot, minor interference making little difference to his finishing position; held up, shaken up 3f out, not quicken, hampered approaching final 1f, made no impression; will stay 1m.

ZOU'S YOUR DADDY was flying too high in this grade, even though not beaten that far in a modestly-run race; slowly into stride, in rear, shaken up over 2f out, ran green, made no impression.
