A rematch between the second, third and fourth from the Sagaro Stakes, Sweet William turning the tables on Caius Chorister, played later than he was that day and in a change of headgear, the principals likely to meet again in the Gold Cup, though likely to have their work cut out if Kyprios turns up in top form; the pace was sound and the field, bar one, came up the centre in the straight.

SWEET WILLIAM (IRE) in a change of headgear, gained a first win at pattern level under a well-judged ride, again looking tricky, but coaxed to the front late on after he'd look set to hang fire again; held up, pushed along 3f out, edged right, shaken up final 1f, wandered, edged ahead final 50 yds; he's set to take his chance in the Gold Cup, worse off at the weights with the placed horses in that and with others in the mix, too.

CAIUS CHORISTER (FR) ran well again, again keen but seeing the race out, her stamina to prove in the Gold Cup but obviously worth her place in the field, set to meet the winner on terms 3 lb better; in touch, not settle fully, shaken up 2f out, led 1f out, kept on, headed final 50 yds.

TRUESHAN (FR) was again carrying a 7-lb penalty and, looking to have come on since Ascot and more relaxed this time, stepped up on his run in the Sagaro without being quite back to his best, set to take on the first 2 at levels in the Gold Cup; tracked pace, led under pressure over 2f out, headed 1f out, weakened final 100 yds.

MISS CYNTHIA in first-time hood, seemed to excel herself up in grade, though whether she can repeat this back in handicap company seems doubtful and she's better judged on her previous form back at that level; steadied at the start, in rear, shaken up entering straight, kept to inside rail until hung left 2f out and joined others, not quicken final 1f.

METIER (IRE) had ideal conditions but faced a stiff task in this grade and wasn't up to it; led, ridden straight, headed over 2f out, weakened.

CHESSPIECE ran poorly, something presumably not right given he was beaten so far from home; tracked pace, shaken up 4f out, weakened over 2f out, eased.
