proved better than ever to justify support, digging deep to edge it on the line and provide a boost to the Betfair Hurdle form; mid-division, smooth headway out wide before 2 out, 2 lengths down soon after last, stayed on to lead on line; he'll reportedly skip Cheltenham and has chasing on the agenda for next season, having the scope to do at least as well in that sphere even if he'll be older than the average novice.

proved at least as good as ever back under a fully-fledged rider, looking to have struck for home decisively only to succumb on the punishing run to the line; in touch, close up third, led 2 out, edged right flat, caught on line; if he can repeat this form in the County Hurdle then it'll take something really well treated to stop him defending his crown.

shaped well in a much better race than at Huntingdon, really taking the eye with how he carved through the field early in the home straight; held up, travelled fluently, rapid headway before 2 out, chased leaders soon after, one paced flat; there's still a bigger effort in him and he can win a good-quality handicap before long.

Too many were running off marks in the 120s or even lower to regard this as a vintage Imperial Cup but that's no knock on the 2 who pulled clear, the favourite finding plenty to nail on the line a runner-up who was showing his best form since landing last season's County Hurdle; the pace was even and it seemed a fair race.

GO DANTE proved better than ever to justify support, digging deep to edge it on the line and provide a boost to the Betfair Hurdle form; mid-division, smooth headway out wide before 2 out, 2 lengths down soon after last, stayed on to lead on line; he'll reportedly skip Cheltenham and has chasing on the agenda for next season, having the scope to do at least as well in that sphere even if he'll be older than the average novice.

FAIVOIR (FR) proved at least as good as ever back under a fully-fledged rider, looking to have struck for home decisively only to succumb on the punishing run to the line; in touch, close up third, led 2 out, edged right flat, caught on line; if he can repeat this form in the County Hurdle then it'll take something really well treated to stop him defending his crown.

BASHERS REFLECTION was below form back down in trip, never really threatening any headway; held up, pushed along before 2 out, made little impression; type to bounce back quickly.

SHARED was below form, perhaps just finding this too competitive; off pace, struggling after 3 out.
