Five of the 6 had run only in maiden/novice company, all winning last time out, a lot of improvement needed to get close to the standard for the race, unlikely that that was achieved in a muddling contest run at a steady gallop, a good ride from the front nearly paying off on an unconsidered outsider; the winner was a third success in the race for Charlie Appleby, following Masar and Silver Knott, Aablan's victory the first for his yard in a 2-y-o pattern event this year.

AABLAN (IRE) strong in the betting, up in grade, though sweating beforehand, was much improved from debut, still showing signs of inexperience and having to knuckle down to prevail, likely to learn further from this; steadied at the start, pushed along over 2f out, ran green, stayed on inside final 1f, led final 50 yds; he's sure to stay 1m and will go on improving.

INISHFALLEN (IRE) racing on softer ground than previously, seemed to excel himself in this higher grade, though he very much had the run of the race and may not be quite so good as the result implies; led, shaken up 2f out, kept on, headed final 50 yds.

DEVIL'S POINT (IRE) progressed again, still green but doing his best work in the closing stages and leaving the impression he will stay 1m (entered in Royal Lodge); held up, shaken up over 2f out, ran green, kept on well inside final 1f, nearest at the finish; will go on improving.

STARLORE built on debut promise up in grade after 8 weeks off, in form terms anyway, though having nearly thrown the race away that day, more or less did so this time, quickening up best and looking all over the winner but not sustaining his effort, clearly still immature (noisy beforehand) but surely remaining capable of a lot better when his abilities can be channelled in the right way ; held up, travelled well, effort 2f out, challenged 1f out, faltered.

MORTLAKE (IRE) who sweated up badly beforehand, was seemingly found out in better company, though softer ground as well as paddock appearance may have been a factor; in touch, hung right straight, shaken up over 2f out, one paced.

CERULEAN BAY (IRE) on his toes beforehand, was found out in better company; tracked pace, took keen hold, upsides 3f out, shaken up, wandered, weakened final 1f.
