The largest field for the Tolworth since 2008 and the race certainly proved competitive, with 4 of the 8 in contention in the closing stages, despite a soundly-run race, though 3 of those were among the outsiders as 2 of the front 3 in the market clearly didn't give their running, the race as a result a little lacking in quality compared to usual.

TAHMURAS (FR) overcame the rise in class, confirming himself a useful young hurdler, even if he still shows inexperience and his jumping in the latter stages lacked fluency; tracked pace early, settled in touch before third, smooth headway entering straight, second when mistake 2 out, led approaching last, mistake there, wandered, drew clear, ridden out; sure to stay beyond 2m, he's likely to progress further.

L'ASTROBOY (GER) was much improved from hurdling debut, doing really well up in grade, given his limited experience; soon steadied, headway entering straight, shaken up before 2 out, not quicken, stayed on run-in; will stay beyond 2m; open to further improvement.

NEMEAN LION (GER) progressed again, acquitting himself well in facing a much more demanding task; waited with, effort straight, keeping on when not fluent 2 out, not quicken and edged left run-in.

COLONEL HARRY (IRE) ran well upped in grade, just unable to repeat successfully the tactics that had won the day here in November; led, jumped slightly left, shaken up straight, headed approaching last, no extra late on.

AUTHORISED SPEED (FR) strong in the betting, turned in a lacklustre display kept to bad ground and was reported afterwards to have scoped dirty; handy, mistakes second, third, pushed along after, weakened before 2 out; he clearly didn't do himself justice and is worth another chance, especially if tackling a well-run handicap on less testing ground.

BLOW YOUR WAD (IRE) faced a stiffer task up in grade but still ran poorly, tried in first-time cheekpieces; held up, pushed along home turn, left behind before 2 out.

ARCTIC BRESIL is a grand type, but he clearly ran no sort of race, he trainer's representative unable to shed any light on the matter when asked by the stewards; off pace, not going well from third, tailed off when pulled up last; such was the promise of his debut win, that he surely remains open to improvement.

UKANTANGO (IRE) up in grade, would have been well held had he jumped the last, possibly finding conditions too testing, as well as the company too hot; prominent, pushed along after 3 out, weakened quickly next, pulled up last.
