given a break since his failure in the St James's Palace, got right back on track with a second win at this level here on testing ground, still with the possibility he'll make a very smart performer; prominent, led 2f out, tackled inside final 1f, kept on, ridden out; he's entered in the Champion Stakes, though something a little less ambitious, with the aim of making a big impact at 4 yrs, perhaps a wiser route.

continued his really solid run of form, fully competitive back out of handicap company, making the winner work hard; held up, headway over 2f out, challenged inside final 1f, ran on.

was just about the form pick on his best effort this year, but he wasn't able to show that level in a race which didn't really play to his strengths, still finding top gear at the finish; held up, headway over 1f out, not quicken, stayed on inside final 1f, took third late on.

ran respectably, perhaps this type of more tactical race not playing to his strengths so much as a well-run handicap; close up, shaken up over 2f out, faded well inside final 1f.

had his work cut out under a penalty and fared much better than he had (in a higher grade) at York, just lacking a turn of foot late on; held up, headway early in straight, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken over 1f out.

hasn't beaten a rival on his last 3 runs at this level, well held here and probably best watched until he shows a bit more; held up, effort early in straight, not quicken, dropped away over 1f out, eased.

A smart bunch, the winner a lightly-raced 3-y-o who was getting back on the up after a break; the gallop was modest and the field set the pattern for the rest of the afternoon by coming right over to the stand side in the straight.
