didn't need to improve to gain a second win at this level this year, his defeat last time coming in a really strong race at this level; waited with, took keen hold, ridden 2f out, led 1f out, kept on, held on well with nothing in hand; his merit is well established.

is knocking at the door this year, running right up to his best for the third time in 4 starts, just denied by a game winner that was slightly better positiond than himself; held up, effort 2f out, good headway over 1f out, challenged inside final 1f, kept on, held towards the finish.

ran creditably, much better than when well behind the winner last time, and he shaped better than the distance beaten too, likely to have finished closer with a clear run; held up, pushed along 3f out, not clear run over 1f out, kept on final 100 yds, nearest at the finish.

running over a shorter trip than he'd tackled previously and on going possibly firmer than ideal, shaped as if retaining plenty of ability after 8 months off; led, shaken up over 2f out, headed 1f out, not quicken; he's lightly raced for his age and could well have more to offer at staying trips, entered in the Irish St Leger but perhaps having the Ebor as his main target, given his handicap record, that trip unlikely to pose a problem for him.

back down in trip, ran his best race yet, gently progressive; tracked pace, ridden over 2f out, every chance 1f out, one paced; remains with potential, perhaps back over further.

back in a less competitive environment, ran respectably, particularly as the run of the race didn't go his way; patiently ridden, effort over 2f out, edged right, made little impression, not persevered with once held.

failed to build on his last run, better placed than most too; handy, took keen hold, shaken up 3f out, not quicken 2f out, carried head bit awkwardly, weakened final 1f.

A smart bunch, the favourite not having quite the chance on form that the market suggested but not having to improve to win another listed event with little to spare, the race rather tactical and the field finishing in something of a heap.

ELARQAM didn't need to improve to gain a second win at this level this year, his defeat last time coming in a really strong race at this level; waited with, took keen hold, ridden 2f out, led 1f out, kept on, held on well with nothing in hand; his merit is well established.
