took advantage of an easier grade after 2 months off to gain a first win on turf since his debut, needing to run right up to his best to prevail; in touch, travelled well, chased leaders 3f out, led under 2f out, headed briefly 1f out, kept on final 1f, ridden out; he should continue to be competitive, at this trip or a bit further.

ran well, so it seems a bit harsh to fault him, but he came to win the race and faltered when it came to the crunch, perhaps getting there too soon but certainly outbattled by the winner; held up, travelled well, good headway over 2f out, looked likely winner when led briefly over 1f out, edged right and worried out of it.

proved at least as good as ever, even though he got caught out when the tempo lifted, doing well to get into a challenging position after that; in touch, took keen hold, outpaced over 3f out, rallied 2f out, challenged 1f out, kept on.

ran well upped in grade, given a positive ride, back down in trip; disputed lead, kicked on soon after halfway, headed under 2f out, not quicken, rallied inside final 1f, kept on; his merit is well established.

seemed to excel himself, on just his second start of the year, off 5 months since his disappointing return, plenty about him physically and the regard in which his top yard holds him to give him full credit for the effort for now; tracked pace, ridden 3f out, not quicken, hung right, chased leaders over 1f out, plugged on.

Salisbury's most prestigious race of the whole year, this renewal featuring the first double-figure field in a decade, little between the majority of a smart line-up on their best form, and although half the field weren't at their best, the others ran their race and give the form a solid look.

MEGALLAN took advantage of an easier grade after 2 months off to gain a first win on turf since his debut, needing to run right up to his best to prevail; in touch, travelled well, chased leaders 3f out, led under 2f out, headed briefly 1f out, kept on final 1f, ridden out; he should continue to be competitive, at this trip or a bit further.

PEROTTO proved at least as good as ever, even though he got caught out when the tempo lifted, doing well to get into a challenging position after that; in touch, took keen hold, outpaced over 3f out, rallied 2f out, challenged 1f out, kept on.

SOLID STONE (IRE) ran well upped in grade, given a positive ride, back down in trip; disputed lead, kicked on soon after halfway, headed under 2f out, not quicken, rallied inside final 1f, kept on; his merit is well established.

DUKE OF HAZZARD (FR) was below form, never looking likely to get involved, just struggling to find his best this summer; held up, pushed along over 3f out, made no impression.

ACCIDENTAL AGENT wasn't in the same form as last time, back in pattern company, brief interference enough to snuff out any progress he might have made; held up, ridden 3f out, hampered over 2f out, made no impression.

MUMS TIPPLE (IRE) was below form, looking as if he was just going through the motions, generally pretty easy to oppose; steadied at the start, in rear, effort over 2f out, made no impression.

PALAVECINO (FR) back down in trip, was well held, much further below form than he had been in the Wolferton Stakes; disputed lead, shaken up over 3f out, weakened 2f out.

OH THIS IS US (IRE) had an off-day, not going from an early stage; held up, ridden before halfway, labouring long way out.
