A somewhat messy listed event with the runner-up allowed to set a steady pace, though the exciting favourite avoided trouble and ultimately won cosily, while the third caught the eye returning from a mammoth absence.

ESPIONAGE (IRE) had progressed with each run at 2 yrs and, tackling a markedly longer trip down in grade, duly made a winning return from 8 months off while shaping as though he'll come on again for the run; chased leaders, pushed along over 2f out, stayed on to lead inside final 1f, well on top finish; the way he shaped suggests an even stiffer test would suit and he could be one for the St Leger.

YOUNG IRELAND (IRE) struggled with the first bend but still produced a career best effort, albeit with the advantage of an easy lead; led, hung badly left/ran very wide on bend after 3f, ridden 2f out, tackled soon after, headed inside final 1f, kept on.

JACKFINBAR (FR) last seen almost exactly 4 years earlier at Sandown for Harry Dunlop, had been gelded since and shaped well, unlucky not to finish closer; steadied at the start, in rear, going well when short of room from 2f out, got gap inside final 1f, ran on; he wouldn't want turning out quickly but he'd be of interest wherever he ends up next time, that potentially over hurdles given his yard.

SERIOUS CHALLENGE (IRE) shaped as if still in good form, this not placing enough emphasis on stamina, though he didn't help his rider by seeming to lug right for much of the straight; mid-division, not settle fully, pushed along over 2f out, hung right, stayed on final 1f, never a threat.

KINGSWOOD found his sequence of run-to-run progression coming to an end, beaten on merit having held every chance; mid-division, headway 3f out, challenged under 2f out, no extra final 100 yds; still lightly raced, he'll remain of interest at this sort of level.

ANGELS WRATH (IRE) is proving consistent at this level, not seen to best effect here, the longer trip posing no problems, albeit this not proving a true test at it; chased leaders, raced freely, effort when not clear run under 2f out, keeping on when carried right well inside final 1f.

SIONNACH EILE (IRE) again went without the headgear and failed to come on for his reappearance following another 11 weeks off; prominent, ridden 2f out, faded final 1f.

IMAGINARIUM (IRE) was asked a big question tackling this on just his third start and on the back of an 8-month absence, and is probably best not judged on it, the race not setting up for the closers; raced off the pace, pushed along over 2f out, never landed a blow.

VEGA MAGNIFICO (IRE) wasn't in the same form as last time, ridden differently up in trip; mid-division, lost place after halfway, beaten over 1f out.
