had no problem with this 2f longer trip, albeit in a race where the emphasis on speed, and showed improved form to gain his first victory at this level; held up, had to pick way through, stayed on to lead well inside final 1f; tough sort and likely to remain competitive at this sort of level; effective at 1m to 1½m.

back on turf, in first-time cheekpieces, is bred to be suited by this sort of trip and duly improved for it, but, like plenty of his sire's offspring, seems to have inherited his share of quirks; tracked pace, challenged over 1f out, hung right, carried head high, looked half-hearted.

upped in trip, didn't really have the chance the market suggested, and could only run to a similar level to last time; made running, tackled early in straight, headed well inside final 1f, had the run of the race; handled heavy ground very well on debut and may need similar conditions if she is to make more impact at this level.

back down in trip, ran respectably; dropped out, headway before home turn, stayed on, nearest at the finish, unsuited by the way the race developed; will prove suited by a return to 1¾m.

A spate of withdrawals due to a change in going meant this listed race took a bit less winning than seemed likely, but it was still a useful renewal; the pace was no better than fair and there were still plenty in contention early in the straight.
