A pretty standard modern-day Zetland Gold Cup with the notable exception of the 3-y-o winner - very few of that age run in the race these days - and he was always going well en route to a cosy success.

OVIEDO (IRE) looked well handicapped on his Acomb form last year, even if he hadn't built on that since, and proved the point after 8 weeks off over 2f longer trip, the substantial weight-for-age allowance at this time of year very much in his favour, becoming the first 3-y-o to win this since Migwar in 1996, though very few try these days; chased leaders, travelled strongly, produced to lead over 1f out, just kept up to work and won a shade cosily; unexposed at this trip and open to further improvement, though it won't be so easy to repeat this form back against fellow 3-y-os.

CITY STREAK is really consistent and, while it would be a stretch to call him an unlucky loser, would likely have made the 3-y-o winner work a lot harder with a clear run; tracked pace, no room from 2f out, switched over 1f out, ran on.

BARYSHNIKOV has slipped in the weights and returned to form, reprising his third-place finish in this race last year; dwelt, raced off the pace, still plenty to do under 2f out, headway entering final 1f, ran on.

PILLAR OF HOPE ran creditably, having every chance of following up his Beverley success back up in trip; close up, went on under 2f out, headed over 1f out, no extra last ½f.

HIGHWAYGREY was friendless in the betting but wasted no time getting back to form in a better race than he's contested in some time; awkward leaving stalls, mid-division, effort around 2f out, carried right over 1f out, kept on.

WAR IN HEAVEN (IRE) wasn't disgraced after 8 weeks off, but has an ungainly head carriage and probably isn't as good on turf as all-weather; led, tackled under 3f out, headed around 2f out, carried head high, faded final 1f, eased last ½f.

TURNTABLE back on less testing ground, couldn't get competitive after fluffing the start; very slowly away, raced well off the pace, effort when hung right 2f out, never dangerous.

CAP FRANCAIS back on turf, is below both previous winning handicap marks but failed to come on for reappearance; mid-field, effort under 3f out, dropped away over 1f out, not persevered with once held.

KITSUNE POWER (IRE) without the headgear this time, might have needed the run after 8 months off, but this was a pretty limp effort in truth; steadied at the start, held up, effort under 3f out, left behind under 2f out.
