completed a perfect campaign in straightforward fashion, not needing to be at his very best to confirm form with a quartet that had finished behind him at Cheltenham, less testing conditions proving no hindrance to him on this occasion; waited with, travelled well, not fluent fifth, took closer order early final circuit, going well when hit 3 out, produced to lead early in straight, forged clear; already as low as 5/2 to retain his crown at Cheltenham next year and, assuming he'll follow a similar route, it isn't hard to envisage him doing just that.

successful in a match race over fences since Cheltenham, ran up to his best to finish runner-up in this race for the second year in a row, going down by a small margin last year but readily put in his place here; mid-division, went with enthusiasm, went handy early final circuit, pushed along 2 out, went second early in straight, held when untidy last, no extra and just clung on for second.

ran respectably, the relative emphasis on speed no good to this dour stayer; mid-division, outpaced before 2 out, forced to switch early in straight, kept on well, took third dying strides; with a shortage of obvious successors to the likes of Paisley Park and Champ in Britain, it wouldn't be a surprise if connections of Home By The Lee decide to take in some of the big staying races across the water, the Long Walk an obvious target.

a thoroughly likeable sort, turned in another very solid effort, in the frame at all 3 of the major spring Festivals even with his conditional unable to claim; mid-division, went handy approaching 2 out, driven entering straight, kept on, edged out of place as rider took things rather easy and Home By The Lee motored home; will continue to make his presence felt in these events but does have the physique of a chaser should connections opt to go down that route.

seemed to excel himself tackling open Grade 1 company for the first time, though he had done something similar at this meeting last year, the return to less testing ground in his favour; close up, went on 5 out, headed entering straight, no extra; a return to chasing is likely to be on his agenda sooner rather than later.

wasn't up to the task asked an even bigger question than at Cheltenham, conclusions about trip - and ground having raced under testing conditions previously - best left to another day; held up, in touch leaving back straight, left behind soon after 2 out, not knocked about.

followed a good run with a below-par one, a third run in under 2 months probably one too many for one who hasn't stood much racing in recent years; close up, mistake fifth, went on eighth, headed 5 out, weakened 3 out, eased off.

in first-time hood and tongue strap, is best not judged on this first run since finishing third to Facile Vega in the Champion Novice Hurdle at this meeting in 2023, the much longer trip a mere side issue on the day; raced well off the pace, no threat from 3 out, pulled up straight.

a tremendous servant to connections, his victories including a Stayers' Hurdle, 2 Pertemps Finals and 2 Liverpool Hurdles, met with a sad end, still in rear but not completely out of things - given his propensity to finish with a rattle - when breaking down on the run to 3 out.

A commanding performance by the dominant force in this division, Teahupoo becoming the first since Anzum to follow up here having won the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham, the victory a bittersweet one for trainer Gordon Elliott, however, courtesy of the loss of stable stalwart Sire du Berlais.

TEAHUPOO (FR) completed a perfect campaign in straightforward fashion, not needing to be at his very best to confirm form with a quartet that had finished behind him at Cheltenham, less testing conditions proving no hindrance to him on this occasion; waited with, travelled well, not fluent fifth, took closer order early final circuit, going well when hit 3 out, produced to lead early in straight, forged clear; already as low as 5/2 to retain his crown at Cheltenham next year and, assuming he'll follow a similar route, it isn't hard to envisage him doing just that.
