picked up where he left off when last seen 7 months earlier, doing everything that was asked of him, readily brushing aside some seasoned performers; travelled strongly, chased clear leader, edged ahead 2 out, quickened clear early in straight, just kept up to work; he's already pretty close to the level required to be considered a genuine Champion Hurdle contender and, with further improvement in the offing, he'll likely give Honeysuckle plenty to think about should the pair lock horns in the Matheson at Leopardstown next month.

attempting to win this race for a third time, ran creditably after 11 months off, albeit put firmly in his place by a much younger stable companion on a steep upward curve; raced in third, took closer order 3 out, pushed along after next, went second flat, stayed on, no impression on winner.

who had run poorly on the Flat when last seen, had previously won a Grade 3 event in ready fashion but wasn't up to this better company; held up, untidy first, ridden between last 2, never involved.

The usual small but select field lined up for the first Grade 1 hurdle held on either side of the Irish Sea since the Festival here in late-April, and it proved a familar tale, the progressive State Man leading home a 1-2-3 for Willie Mullins, who was winning the race for a remarkable eleventh time since 2011.

STATE MAN (FR) picked up where he left off when last seen 7 months earlier, doing everything that was asked of him, readily brushing aside some seasoned performers; travelled strongly, chased clear leader, edged ahead 2 out, quickened clear early in straight, just kept up to work; he's already pretty close to the level required to be considered a genuine Champion Hurdle contender and, with further improvement in the offing, he'll likely give Honeysuckle plenty to think about should the pair lock horns in the Matheson at Leopardstown next month.
