was clearly refreshed after 8 months off, his spring campaign having proved a tough one, finally landing his first Grade 1 outside of novice company (finished first past the post but disqualified at Leopardstown last December); chased leaders, jumped soundly, typically travelled strongly, short of room briefly early in straight, switched to inside and went on after 2 out, quickened clear before last, closed down only late on; he clearly stays 2½m well enough, and with his nemesis Altior such a dominant figure in the 2m ranks at present, connections may continue to explore options at this trip, several bookmakers promoting him to favouritism for Cheltenham's Ryanair Chase, though his absolute best performances have come at the shorter trip, no great surprise in that given his style of running.

ran to a similar level to Down Royal 6 weeks earlier, again shaping as though ready for a step back up to 3m later this month in the King George or - more likely - the Savills (formerly Lexus) Chase at Leopardstown; tracked pace, mistake seventh (jumped fine otherwise), ridden after 3 out, bumped early in straight, lost second 2 out, rallied well run-in.

stepped up on last month's reappearance run though is still some way short of last season's best form, connections possibly working backwards from the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival, though he may have Min amongst the opposition in that event this time around, likely to be seen next in the Savills (formerly Lexus) Chase at Leopardstown, in which he finished second last season; made running, shaken up home turn, headed between last 2, lost second run-in, no extra.

ran as well as could be expected, his Grade 1 success in the spring a fortunate one after all, though he has clearly developed into a very smart performer; held up, jumped right at times, ridden entering straight, edged right between last 2, kept on.

as anticipated found the test inadequate after 8 months off, though this is likely to have blown away any cobwebs ahead of future targets back at 3m+; in rear, ridden after 3 out, outpaced between last 2, not unduly punished.

All 5 ran. Fences: 15.

Winning Owner: Mrs S. Ricci

Time: 5m 17.7s Closing Sectional: (3.45f): 47.40s (114.6%)

Not a vintage renewal by recent standards of this long-established event, though all 5 had already tasted success at Grade 1 level and the result certainly has substance, the quintet finishing in betting order.

MIN (FR) was clearly refreshed after 8 months off, his spring campaign having proved a tough one, finally landing his first Grade 1 outside of novice company (finished first past the post but disqualified at Leopardstown last December); chased leaders, jumped soundly, typically travelled strongly, short of room briefly early in straight, switched to inside and went on after 2 out, quickened clear before last, closed down only late on; he clearly stays 2½m well enough, and with his nemesis Altior such a dominant figure in the 2m ranks at present, connections may continue to explore options at this trip, several bookmakers promoting him to favouritism for Cheltenham's Ryanair Chase, though his absolute best performances have come at the shorter trip, no great surprise in that given his style of running.
