in first-time blinkers, produced a quite remarkable performance to put himself into an elite group of horses that have won a Group 1 on the Flat and a Grade 1 over jumps, a shade reluctant at the start again but nothing wrong with his attitude once up and running, for all that he was undoubtedly seen to maximum effect under an enterprising ride; slowly into stride, held up, pulled way to front entering back straight, clear 4 out, ridden approaching last, always holding on; couldn't be relied upon to reproduce this form and is reportedly due to revert to the Flat in the near future.

in first-time visor after just 3 days off, consented to jump off this time and ran about as well as could have been expected out of novice company, an untimely error possibly costing him a place; held up, blundered 3 out, pushed along before next, kept going well, never nearer; clearly has the ability to mix it in this company but remains one to be treated with caution.

resumed progress after disappointing at Cheltenham, likely to have finished closer still but for some uncharacteristic mistakes; mid-field, not fluent fifth, keeping on when blundered last; is capable of taking high rank in the novice chase division next season should connections opt to go down that route.

all the rage in the market to follow up last year's victory, can have a line put through this run; chased leaders, headway end of back straight, second 2 out, weakened, eased off, reportedly lame.

An intriguing renewal of this Grade 1; Willie Mullins struck a major blow in his quest to retain the trainers' championship, but not with the one the market predicted, Wicklow Brave's victory meaning he has now won 7 of the last 8 renewals of this race; an ordinary early pace meant the winner probably didn't have to work too hard to open up a decisive advantage; all eyes were on Labaik at the start but it was Diakali who wouldn't line up.

WICKLOW BRAVE in first-time blinkers, produced a quite remarkable performance to put himself into an elite group of horses that have won a Group 1 on the Flat and a Grade 1 over jumps, a shade reluctant at the start again but nothing wrong with his attitude once up and running, for all that he was undoubtedly seen to maximum effect under an enterprising ride; slowly into stride, held up, pulled way to front entering back straight, clear 4 out, ridden approaching last, always holding on; couldn't be relied upon to reproduce this form and is reportedly due to revert to the Flat in the near future.
