had come up a little short in 2 previous attempts at this level, both of them over 1¼m, and it was that stamina that won her the day back at 1m, producing a fairly remarkable late surge to get up after she'd looked to have too much on her plate turning for home (traded at 450 on Betfair); waited with, failed to hold gap as Clon Coulis improved on her outside around 2f out and shuffled back slightly, had to pick way through entering final 1f, found plenty to lead close home; she probably didn't have to improve much, if at all, on her best form and life will be harder under a penalty in similar events, but this will have increased her value as a prospective broodmare.

shaped as if still in good form, even if the figures don't quite reflect as much, her penalty making the difference on the day, though it was a fraction disappointing that she couldn't seal matters from the position she was in a furlong out; mid-field, smooth headway over 2f out, quickened to lead just inside final 1f, collared close home.

won this race last year and stood out on recent form after her big effort in the Hunt Cup, but just wasn't in the same form, her position perhaps not ideal but hardly a legitimate excuse given from where the winner came; steadied at the start, held up, progress out wide home turn, hung right inside final 1f, kept on, never nearer.

is progressing well this year and took another step forward up in grade after just 7 days off, likely to still have more to offer back in handicaps; dwelt, raced well off the pace, still plenty to do 1f out, ran on late, nearest at the finish, not ideally placed.

3 of these had form good enough to win an average listed race but none of them were at their best on the day leaving the door open for something to step up, the one who did coming from an unlikley position turning for home, adding to the feel of a slightly muddling race, little more than 3 lengths covering the first 7 home.

EXHORT had come up a little short in 2 previous attempts at this level, both of them over 1¼m, and it was that stamina that won her the day back at 1m, producing a fairly remarkable late surge to get up after she'd looked to have too much on her plate turning for home (traded at 450 on Betfair); waited with, failed to hold gap as Clon Coulis improved on her outside around 2f out and shuffled back slightly, had to pick way through entering final 1f, found plenty to lead close home; she probably didn't have to improve much, if at all, on her best form and life will be harder under a penalty in similar events, but this will have increased her value as a prospective broodmare.
