had shaped a lot better than the result at Chester and, wisely given plenty of time to recover from that, he showed himself as good as ever under a typically positive ride from de Sousa, arguably value a bit extra over the result given the use made of him; made running, kicked on from 3f out, shaken up entering straight, kept on gamely.

improved further in narrowly failing to defy an 8 lb rise for Nottingham, a further hefty rise in the weights in the offing after finishing so far clear of the third; dropped out, smooth progress from 4f out, chased leader approaching final 1f, kept on well, just failed.

turned out again quickly, found it tougher under a penalty but was far from discredited, this a perfectly solid effort on the balance of her form, Kempton undoubtedly flattering; tracked pace, travelled smoothly, ridden entering straight, no extra final 1f.

ran well facing a stiff task from 6 lb out of the handicap and, though he's hardly one for the rent money, it's easy to see him going close back in his usual grade next time, clearly back in better heart again now; dwelt, patiently ridden, steady headway from 4f out, chased leaders approaching straight, stayed on.

A more competitive long-distance handicap than many at the course and it was run at a solid gallop, too, plenty in trouble a long way from home as a result of the pace set by Michael's Mount, that one at least as good as ever in fending off an improver and a recent wide-margin winner.

MICHAEL'S MOUNT had shaped a lot better than the result at Chester and, wisely given plenty of time to recover from that, he showed himself as good as ever under a typically positive ride from de Sousa, arguably value a bit extra over the result given the use made of him; made running, kicked on from 3f out, shaken up entering straight, kept on gamely.

ECHO (IRE) possibly found the race coming too soon just 9 days after Doncaster, possibly not an out-and-out stayer but beaten before lack of stamina was the reason, anyway; held up, ridden over 4f out, beaten before straight.

VALKENBURG found run of good form coming to a halt and it's safe to assume he'll be back in headgear when next seen, just not in the same mood as his last 2 starts; mid-field, off the bridle long way out, beaten 4f out.
