These were either having their first run of the year or coming here off the back of a below-par effort, so this probably wasn't the strongest of races, the first 4 pulling clear, the winner the most lightly raced of the whole field and able to find a fair bit of improvement on his return; the field raced as 2 groups, stand side and centre, though the winner would surely have won whichever group he was in.

KING OF JUNGLE (IRE) gelded since last seen, found improvement to win a handicap at just the second attempt, well served by the return to 6f; raced stand side, led, shaken up over 2f out, kept on well final 1f, eased close home; this wasn't the most competitive of handicaps, but he looks the sort to progress further.

ARISTOBULUS in first-time hood after 7 months off, proved better than ever, doing his best work late on, dropped back to 6f, likely to prove as effective at 7f, faring better than previously on going firmer than good; raced centre, raced off the pace, headway 2f out, stayed on inside final 1f, took second final 50 yds.

LADY RAEBURN (IRE) stepped up on her reappearance run, showing her best form yet, seeing the trip out much better with a run under her belt; raced stand side, slowly into stride, in touch, tracked pace halfway, effort 2f out, kept on final 1f.

MISS CALCULATION (IRE) got back on track, given some respite by the handicapper, producing easily her best effort of the year; raced centre, led group, pushed along halfway, not quicken well inside final 1f.

HELVETIQUE wasn't disgraced after 7 months off, without the cheekpieces worn on her last 2 starts, a bit keener than ideal and not fully seeing the race out, her next run likely to be a better guide to how well she's trained on; raced stand side, prominent, not settle fully, ridden over 2f out, weakened final 1f.

TYSON (IRE) wasn't disgraced after 9 months off, running out of steam late on and likely to come on for the run; steadied at the start, raced centre, waited with, effort 2f out, not quicken, no extra final 1f.

FANTASY NAVIGATOR in first-time hood, fared better than last time, but was still below the level of his best run, that a rather dubious bit of form; raced centre, raced off the pace, outpaced halfway, carried head bit awkwardly.

HOOKED ON YOU (IRE) fared no better than last time, on firmer ground again; raced centre, chased leader, shaken up over 2f out, weakened over 1f out.

DORA PENNY back on turf, ran poorly in first-time tongue strap; held up, switched to stand side group after 2f, shaken up over 2f out, no extra, not persevered with once held.

MINNAMOOLKA (IRE) was in a less competitive affair than at Ascot, but fared even worse; raced stand side, soon behind.
