Speed was tested to the full in this conditions event, and with all but one reappearing for the calendar year fitness played some sort of part too, a decidedly useful performance from a winner who was the only penalised runner in the field.

ATALIS BAY whose stable is going well, particularly with its 3-y-os, had a penalty to carry virtue of his 3 wins last year, even if they only came in novice/nursery company, and got back on the up with a useful effort, coping well with the test of speed for one who saw out 6f well at 2 yrs; tracked pace, effort under 2f out, every chance entering final 1f, led last ½f, kept on well.

BURNING CASH (IRE) acquitted himself really well in a pair of pattern events at the end of his 2-y-o season and, despite being easy to back after 6 months off (stable yet to really get going), picked up where left off with a promising effort; missed the break, mid-field, took strong hold, headway over 1f out, every chance when edged left last ½f, kept on; he's useful and can rate higher still this year in the right circumstances.

REBEL AT DAWN (IRE) had plenty of racing at 2 yrs but improved after 6 months off despite not being seen to best effect, an awkward beginning leaving him on the back foot; stumbled soon after start, off pace, headway entering final 1f, ran on, not unduly punished; he looks to have filled his frame.

MUKER (IRE) had a good time of it in a light 2-y-o campaign and ran creditably after 6 months off, strong in the betting but shaping as though he might just come on a little for the run; bumped start, close up, went on halfway, headed final 1f; he's got plenty of speed, likely to be best when that is most at a premium.

WARRIOR BRAVE having his first start on turf for current connections after 10 weeks off, ran right up to form despite probably not quite as suited as some of these by a sheer speed test, capable of better in the right circumstances; awkward leaving stalls, mid-division, headway when hung left over 1f out, hampered final 100 yds, kept on.

BEN MACDUI (IRE) hasn't gone on from his second in the Molecomb last year, ending up well held after 6 months off, that he apparently lost a shoe early in the race providing only partial mitigation; dived right leaving stalls, led, raced freely, headed halfway, dropped away over 1f out.
