This looked a substandard renewal of the Middle Park on paper beforehand and nothing about the result of a race run in a slower time than the Cheveley Park and with the 3f sectional not suggesting much of an upgrade, causes that view to alter, the winner's performance very much near the lowest-rated by winner's of this race this century; that said Wise Approach did remarkably well to win, his rider very nearly unseated after the horse had clipped heels with The Publican's Son shortly after the start; the field raced up the centre, though they drifted towards the stand side late on, the third making his move nearest that rail.

WISE APPROACH (IRE) looked the pick on form after his good third in the Morny and he barely had to improve on that effort to round off his first season with a Group 1 success, though the bare result hardly tells the story, as he was very nearly out of the race from the stalls, clipping heels, his performance worth marking up; in rear, badly hampered soon after start, good progress inside final 1f, edged left, responded well and led final 50 yds; he's progressed well this year, showing a willing attitude, and he seems likely to be kept to sprinting next year, emulating his half-brother Perfect Power in winning this and likely to follow that one and try to win the Commonwealth Cup.

BRUSSELS in first-time tongue strap, seemed to excel himself up in grade, as expected return to the shorter trip looking to help, though he's hardly bred to be an out-and-out sprinter, more likely than the winner to have a pop at a Guineas, a fair bit more needed to get involved at classic level; never far away, travelled well, led inside final 1f, edged left, headed final 50 yds.

COPPULL wasted no time getting back to form, much closer to the winner than he had been in the Morny, that he made his move nearest the stand side perhaps an advantage; held up, effort 2f out, headway over 1f out, took third inside final 1f, keeping on when hampered close home; he's raced at 6f since debut, wasn't given a Dewhurst entry and seems more likely than not to be sprinting next year.

FIVE WAYS needed to improve on his Sirenia form to make much impact in this and ran well upped in grade, likely that he won't be easy to place next year unless he can find further improvement; led, took keen hold, shaken up under 2f out, headed inside final 1f, no extra.

KANSAS (IRE) showed himself effective at 6f, not far off the form he showed in the Flying Childers, but he's exposed as no more than useful and doesn't have much about him to suggest he'll be better at 3 yrs; held up, shaken up over 2f out, stumbled slightly entering the Dip, stayed on inside final 1f, never on terms.

HAVANA HURRICANE had more to do than the market suggested and ran about as well as could be expected, suited by the return to 6f, getting away on terms for once but again patiently ridden; held up, took keen hold, effort over 2f out, not quicken approaching final 1f.

HILITANY faced a stiff task in this grade and wasn't up to it, though ran at least as well as previously; chased leaders, shaken up halfway, weakened over 1f out; he's likely to prove best at sprint distances, more required to be a serious pattern player next year.

THE PUBLICAN'S SON (USA) had been highly tried so far, and a step up to Group 1 level on just his second start proved too much, as he lacked the experience to figure in the latter stages; dived left leaving stalls, mid-field, shaken up over 2f out, hung left, weakened over 1f out; he'll stay 7f and is obviously good enough to win a race or 2 with his sights lowered.

FIRST APPROACH (IRE) has a good pedigree and looks the part, but with just a maiden win to his name, he was flying too high in this grade; helped set pace, shaken up 2f out, weakened over 1f out.
