was strong in the betting with the likely race set up in his favour and proved at least as good as ever as he took full advantage, going one better than in this race in 2020; soon led, pushed along over 2f out, found extra, made all; he's hardly run a bad race all year since returning to these shores and is a credit to connections.

had returned to form with a bang at Newbury last time and shaped as if still in good form, just not seen to best effect given the way the race developed; held up, travelled well, pushed along over 2f out, headway over 1f out, edged right final 100 yds, kept on, caught further back than ideal.

had a bit to find at the weights under his penalty for winning the Hungerford earlier in the season and returned to form after a couple of below-par efforts at York and Doncaster; slowly into stride, mid-field, pushed along over 2f out, one paced.

looked up against it in this company under a penalty for winning a fillies' only race in this grade in France earlier in the year and she shaped as if back in form after 11 weeks off, is better than she could show here; mid-field, pushed along over 2f out, keeping on when badly hampered approaching final 100 yds, not recover; she'd have been battling it out for third on a level playing field.

A classic 'Newmarket result' if ever there was one, a likeable front-runner allowed his own way on the rail on the front end, one as tough and genuine as Pogo proving too tough to pass, Sacred losing little in defeat in coming from right out the back to get closest, the rest not beaten far in behind and most running close to form, Purplepay unlucky not to have been fighting it out for third after the runner-up took her ground.

POGO (IRE) was strong in the betting with the likely race set up in his favour and proved at least as good as ever as he took full advantage, going one better than in this race in 2020; soon led, pushed along over 2f out, found extra, made all; he's hardly run a bad race all year since returning to these shores and is a credit to connections.
