after just 7 days off, wasted no time getting back on the up, probably helped by having a claimer on board but also taking well to this sort of scenario; mid-field, travelled well, had to wait for gap around 2f out, effort soon after, kept on well final 1f, led final 50 yds; bar a slight blip at Newbury his profile is one of gradual progression and there could be more to come, this just his fourth start in a handicap after all, so he should remain of interest at up to 1¼m.

As is the norm for this sort of high-end handicap, plenty of these have no secrets from the assessor, but it's solid form nevertheless, a progressive type who crept in at the bottom of the weights coming out on top, the frame completed by another upwardly-mobile 4-y-o and a couple of older horses who have come down the weights; typically the field split into 2 groups and as with the last couple of years it was the high numbers who held an advantage, something which puts an even better spin on the effort of the third, who was comfortably best of the octet - those drawn in stalls 1-8 - who went far side.

MAJESTIC (IRE) after just 7 days off, wasted no time getting back on the up, probably helped by having a claimer on board but also taking well to this sort of scenario; mid-field, travelled well, had to wait for gap around 2f out, effort soon after, kept on well final 1f, led final 50 yds; bar a slight blip at Newbury his profile is one of gradual progression and there could be more to come, this just his fourth start in a handicap after all, so he should remain of interest at up to 1¼m.

BELL ROCK again ran creditably to be placed in this contest for the second time in 3 years, underlining his effectiveness on this track and confirming that he's dropped to a mark from which he can make a significant impact; mid-field, went prominent over 2f out, kept on well final 1f; he's been largely kept away from ground softer than good though, so may not have many more chances before the end of the season.

DUAL IDENTITY (IRE) ran another cracker in defeat, shaping better than the bare result and arguably unlucky not to win, doing comfortably best of the octet who raced far side; in touch in group, travelled well, shaken up 2f out, led group over 1f out and overall soon after, headed final 50 yds by a couple who came near side; he's clearly right at the top of his game and is versatile with regards ground so will remain towards the head of the shortlist for other races this backend (entered in Balmoral on Champions Day but may not make the cut).

CARADOC (IRE) has been given a chance by the handicapper and ran creditably, ridden to pick up the pieces; in rear, good headway under 2f out, keeping on when briefly short of room final 1f, never nearer; he's a long time without a win but seems well suited to this sort of big-field environment.

SAVVY VICTORY (IRE) was in a far more competitive event than his previous handicap starts (carried 4 lb penalty for Goodwood win), but continues in good heart; patiently ridden, shaken up 3f out, headway under pressure around 2f out, every chance 1f out, effort flattened out close home.

OUZO shaped as if still in good form, probably just not quite well enough handicapped to win a race of this nature but deserving credit for his consistency; mid-field, ridden over 2f out, kept on.

DUTCH DECOY after just 7 days off, took a step back in the right direction after a brief lull; in touch, upsides 3f out, headed over 1f out, no extra; he doesn't look to have much in hand of his mark, though.

MUJTABA was 3 lb well in under a penalty for Doncaster success (had Bell Rock behind him that day), but proved to be a bit of a disappointment, this the second time this year he's let his supporters down in a prestigious/big-field handicap; patiently ridden, good headway under 3f out, every chance under 2f out, faded.

BRILLIANT LIGHT down in trip, again ran respectably without quite looking in the same form he showed in the summer; close up, pushed along 3f out, not quicken from 2f out.

PROTAGONIST (FR) found winning run coming to an end but shaped as if still in good form, towing along the smaller far-side group for a long way and only running out of petrol in the final 1f, still managing second in his group; it would be no surprise were he to get back on the up sooner rather than later.

FIRST VIEW (IRE) under a penalty, wasn't at quite the same level as for recent win back on turf, but shaped as if still in reasonable heart; mid-field, headway towards centre of track over 2f out, effort flattened out.

GEREMIA (IRE) was always likely to find this tough and probably remains in form; slowly into stride, raced far side, in rear, outpaced, kept on from 2f out, unsuited by the drop in trip.

NIGHT OF LUXURY back down in trip and sporting first-time hood, wasn't seen to best effect; raced far side, close up, carried head bit awkwardly/looked ungainly heading into the Dip, dropped away; hike in weights for winning a couple of small-field events leaves him with work to do, though.

LUCANDER (IRE) in first-time blinkers, found run of good form coming to a halt; mid-field, pushed along around 3f out, always around same position.

JIMI HENDRIX (IRE) upped in trip after 8 weeks off, again ran below form and his season has rather petered out after a really promising start; mid-field, shaken up halfway, plugged on.

TOTALLY CHARMING might have needed the run in first-time tongue strap after 3 months off; raced off the pace, headway 2f out, faded.

ELECTRICAL STORM after 7 weeks off, wasn't in the same form as last time despite step back up in trip; prominent, upsides around 3f out, edged left and headed over 2f out, weakened.

ARQOOB (IRE) claimer ridden and having a rare start in a hood, is better judged on previous form, very awkwardly away and losing all chance at the start.

CAROLUS MAGNUS (IRE) after 7 weeks off, shaped as if still in reasonable form; raced far side, in touch in group and still in firing line 2f out, faded.

PEROTTO back in handicap company for the first time since last year's Bunbury Cup, enjoyed his finest hour in a big-field event like this but underperformed, without many excuses either; in touch, briefly hampered over 2f out, soon beaten.

PISTOLETTO (USA) after just 7 days off, again ran below form; slowly into stride and hampered, raced far side, always behind.

MAGICAL MORNING offered little after 8 weeks off and his campaign has been more miss than hit; mid-field, weakened from 2f out.

MAJESTIC DAWN (IRE) off an 8 lb higher mark than when last seen in a handicap, looked to have plenty on his plate and duly struggled, typically making the running but headed under 3f out and a spent force soon after.

FAST MEDICINE (IRE) was well held; awkward leaving stalls, raced far side, in rear, never on terms; not one to be interested in.

FOREST FALCON (IRE) ran no sort of race; handy, weakened from 2f out.

INJAZATI (IRE) back down in trip, ran poorly, his response to pressure tame given he's got plenty of winning form over further; handy, ridden 4f out, weakened.

AUSTRIAN THEORY (IRE) was well held after 8 weeks off; close up, ridden under 3f out, dropped away.

KITSUNE POWER (IRE) ran poorly in first-time cheekpieces; raced far side, mid-field, dropped away.
