has been most progressive for this yard over hurdles, working through top handicap ranks last season in that sphere before an excellent second in the Aintree Hurdle when last seen 6 months ago, and on his first Flat outing for more than 2 years he improved to land this big prize with a really game display, staying the trip thoroughly in what was a well-run race; held up, travelled smoothly, headway over 5f out, led over 2f out, headed over 1f out, led again final 100 yds, stayed on well; he's surely set for another good season over hurdles and will merit plenty of respect if switching back to the Flat next year for some of the staying races at the big meetings.

plotted an interesting path to this race with 2 wins in France on the Flat through the summer, improving all the time in this sphere, and from a higher mark and in a much more competitive scenario she ran another personal best, having a real battle with Buzz for much of the last 3f and giving best only late on, her relative proximity to what was a strong pace perhaps telling on the final climb to the line; soon worked across from a wide draw to track the pace, travelled strongly, led under 3f out, headed over 2f out, led again over 1f out, headed again final 100 yds, no extra but had already pulled clear of the remainder; she's still very lightly raced over hurdles and will no doubt continue to switch between both codes.

is running consistently well this season, kept to tough, competitive handicaps all the while, no match for the pair that pulled clear but game in his own battle for minor honours; mid-field, typically travelled well, chased leaders over 3f out, third final 1f, one paced; he's very likeable.

After a largely dry week ground conditions weren't as testing as they can be for the Cesarewitch, but a strong pace over the marathon trip still ensured that the race was a demanding stamina test; yet again it went the way of a horse from one of the big National Hunt stables, Nicky Henderson landing the race for the third time and denying Willie Mullins a fourth straight win, Buzz getting the better of a last-3f duel with Burning Victory and both clearly well ahead of their marks on the day as they drew well away from rivals in third, fourth and fifth that themselves are having excellent seasons.

BUZZ (FR) has been most progressive for this yard over hurdles, working through top handicap ranks last season in that sphere before an excellent second in the Aintree Hurdle when last seen 6 months ago, and on his first Flat outing for more than 2 years he improved to land this big prize with a really game display, staying the trip thoroughly in what was a well-run race; held up, travelled smoothly, headway over 5f out, led over 2f out, headed over 1f out, led again final 100 yds, stayed on well; he's surely set for another good season over hurdles and will merit plenty of respect if switching back to the Flat next year for some of the staying races at the big meetings.

BURNING VICTORY (FR) plotted an interesting path to this race with 2 wins in France on the Flat through the summer, improving all the time in this sphere, and from a higher mark and in a much more competitive scenario she ran another personal best, having a real battle with Buzz for much of the last 3f and giving best only late on, her relative proximity to what was a strong pace perhaps telling on the final climb to the line; soon worked across from a wide draw to track the pace, travelled strongly, led under 3f out, headed over 2f out, led again over 1f out, headed again final 100 yds, no extra but had already pulled clear of the remainder; she's still very lightly raced over hurdles and will no doubt continue to switch between both codes.

CALLING THE WIND (IRE) is running consistently well this season, kept to tough, competitive handicaps all the while, no match for the pair that pulled clear but game in his own battle for minor honours; mid-field, typically travelled well, chased leaders over 3f out, third final 1f, one paced; he's very likeable.

GOOBINATOR (USA) had no problem with the 2f longer trip and continues in good heart, probably still well handicapped for a less competitive race than this; mid-division, lost place when short of room after 2f, headway on inner over 4f out, outpaced over 2f out, rallied, took fourth 1f out.

ELYSIAN FLAME a thorough stayer, was unlucky not to finish closer, likely to have been third with a clear run; raced well off the pace, headway when short of room over 2f out, still plenty to do but stayed on well, never nearer; he's held his own in big staying handicaps all year and will continue to give a good account in similar events in 2022.

RAJINSKY (IRE) ran respectably under a penalty for his recent Ascot win, faring much better than when down the field in this race in 2020; raced off the pace, came wide 4f out, headway under pressure soon after, plugged on.

SPANISH KISS isn't a thorough stayer and failed to get home over the 2f longer trip, shaping as if still in good form; mid-division, travelled strongly, headway over 5f out, loomed up 4f out, weakened under 2f out.

RESHOUN (FR) was beaten a long way but not disgraced in first-time blinkers after 9 weeks off, still handicapped to the hilt after his Ascot win when everything fell right; patiently ridden, headway under pressure over 4f out, plodded on, never dangerous.

SNOWALOT (IRE) didn't get home over another 2f further than he'd been previously and shaped much better than the bare result; dropped out, travelled better than most, good headway out wide over 5f out, chased leaders 3f out, weakened over 1f out, finished tired; he's still well handicapped and should prove it next season.

MICRO MANAGE (IRE) was stretched by the 4f longer trip, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests; slowly into stride, headway over 4f out, weakened over 2f out.

LAND OF WINTER (FR) turned in a lacklustre display for all that he ended up beating more than looked likely most of the way; prominent, soon off bridle, lost place before halfway, off pace over 5f out, rallied, plugged on.

PLATFORM NINETEEN (IRE) wasn't seen to best effect; raced wide, mid-division, pushed along 4f out, weakened over 2f out, not well placed.

MARGARET DUMONT (IRE) in first-time visor, produced a laboured effort; mid-division, off the bridle long way out, weakened over 3f out.

NATE THE GREAT found this too competitive but also didn't quite get home, his form beyond 2m having come in races where stamina wasn't at a premium; held up, not settle fully, headway over 5f out, weakened over 2f out.

GREAT WHITE SHARK (FR) who won this race in 2021, has lost her way since, well beaten twice over hurdles earlier in the year and offering little after 7 months off; mid-division, struggling 5f out, never on terms.

SPEEDO BOY (FR) is best not judged on this run; pressed leader, led briefly under 4f out, dropped away quickly, did too much too soon.

M C MULDOON (IRE) a winner over hurdles when last seen in July, had been saved for this having shaped well when second at Royal Ascot but proved to be a disappointment; held up, outpaced 4f out, never a threat.

MAKAWEE (IRE) who got loose beforehand, was never on terms in the race itself.

WITHHOLD after 10 weeks off, couldn't get into his usual prominent position and ran one of lesser races; mid-division, went in snatches, weakened 3f out.

SUPAKALANISTIC (IRE) went off too hard but is just struggling for form at present; took strong hold, led after 2f, headed under 4f out, dropped away quickly.

FOVEROS (FR) disappointed after 10 weeks off but is possibly best on softer ground (acts very well on heavy); mid-division, hung right under 4f out, dropped away.

LIVE YOUR DREAM (IRE) found run of good form coming to a halt; mid-division, pushed along over 4f out, struggling when short of room soon after, soon beaten; he's had a good season overall and is the type to bounce back quickly.

NICHOLAS T has possibly gone off the boil after a long season; dwelt, struggling over 4f out, merely passed beaten horses.

SCARAMANGA (IRE) won a 2m race that wasn't a thorough test at Newbury in the summer and was stretched by this 2f longer trip in a very competitive scenario; in touch, chased leaders 4f out, weakened 3f out.

PRINCE ALEX was beaten by more than lack of stamina over 4f longer trip, at his best on softer ground perhaps; raced off the pace, struggling over 5f out.

TAKARENGO (IRE) was third in this last year but, in first-time cheekpieces (on Flat), ran no sort of race this time around; dwelt, raced wide, off the bridle long way out and always behind.

MANCINI was well held and generally struggles in these most competitive races; raced wide, mid-division, chased leaders before halfway, lost place 5f out, weakened.

DANCE TO PARIS found this too competitive; chased leaders, driven 4f out, weakened over 3f out.

WHISKEY SOUR (IRE) might have needed the run after 6 months off, having his first Flat outing since the 2019 Chester Cup, and he seemed to tire rapidly after being briefly hampered; held up, effort when short of room approaching 4f out, dropped away quickly.

THEMAXWECAN (IRE) underperformed in this race for the second year running; raced wide, mid-division, lost place over 4f out, soon beaten.

LET ME BE (IRE) found this too competitive having worked his way up through winning lower-level handicaps in the North; mid-field, typically raced lazily, struggling before halfway, eased off.

PUTTING GREEN was out of the handicap and out of his depth; chased leader, soon under pressure, lost place after halfway, eased off.
