progressed again, though he needed all of the trip on very testing ground to come out on top, stamina very much his strong suit, likely to need even further at 3 yrs; tracked pace, pushed along 4f out, not quicken, rallied 1f out, stayed on to lead close home; any further progress likely to come from going up in trip.

who looked as well as any horse all afternoon, clearly takes after the dam's side of his pedigree and he saw out the longer trip well, handling very different conditions too, and showing much-improved form on nursery debut, just undone by his lack of experience relative to the winner late on, prominent, led under pressure under 3f out, kept on well, wandered inside final 1f, headed close home; likely to progress further.

well backed on nursery debut, ran creditably, just running out of steam late on, faced with an extreme test, likely to prove fully effective at the trip another day; held up, went in snatches, headway 3f out, every chance 2f out, no extra well inside final 1f; may yet do better.

has stamina on the dam's side of his pedigree and is by a sire who suggests he'd handle the mud, but he failed to land a blow, not disgraced, but not convincing either that he stayed or that he fully handled the conditions; in rear, shaken up over 4f out, not quicken, plugged on after 2f out.

was well held on nursery debut after nearly 2 months off, in trouble long before the longer trip came into play (bred to stay), ground even softer than last time a likelier explanation, though his mark looks stiff enough too; held up, labouring halfway.

looked likely to be well suited by the longer trip, certainly bred for it, but heavy ground proved against him, and having going smoothly in front, he was soon floundering once off the bridle; led, travelled well, shaken up 3f out, headed soon after, found little; he remains with potential.

had improved with each run previously, but very different ground put a stop to that, the mud rather than the trip likely to be his undoing; close up, pushed along 4f out, weakened over 2f out; he may yet progress again away from heavy ground.

Non Runners: BEAR ME IN MIND (IRE), PARISH ACADEMY (IRE).

Winning Owner: Godolphin

Time: 2m 11.26s

The most valuable race on the card, featuring 4 nursery debutants, 6 going up in trip, but it was one already successful in a similar race and proven at the trip who ground out victory in a dour battle after both second and third looked to have his measure, that pair trading at 1.03 and 1.10 respectively on the Betfair Exchange, the winner matched at the ceiling price, the extreme test for 2-y-os proving too much for most of the field.

ACT OF WISDOM (IRE) progressed again, though he needed all of the trip on very testing ground to come out on top, stamina very much his strong suit, likely to need even further at 3 yrs; tracked pace, pushed along 4f out, not quicken, rallied 1f out, stayed on to lead close home; any further progress likely to come from going up in trip.

GENUFLEX was closely matched with the winner from Nottingham, but just wasn't in the same form; in touch, effort over 3f out, not quicken under 2f out, weakened final 1f.

ZAKARIA (FR) was well held on nursery debut after nearly 2 months off, in trouble long before the longer trip came into play (bred to stay), ground even softer than last time a likelier explanation, though his mark looks stiff enough too; held up, labouring halfway.
