has clearly been held in high regard this year and finally fully delivered, showing a very smart level of form, entitling him to be at the head of the Guineas market, though a rematch with the placed horses and some of those beaten further down the field with excuses will be something to savour; held up, travelled well, effort 3f out, led 2f out, kept on well final 1f; he's sure to make an impact in the best races around 1m next year.

progressed again, well served by the run of the race, not travelling so well as last time but doing good work late on, likely to prove the stoutest stayer of the first 3; in rear, pushed along halfway, headway over 1f out, stayed on; will be suited by 1m+; he's been second twice at Group 1 level, the Futurity still an option to go one better this year.

couldn't confirm placings from the National Stakes with the first 2, but he'll certainly make more of a race of it with them in the Guineas, again impressing with how he went through the race, but having to do plenty of running out wide and tiring late on in the conditions, the scenario rather different to last time; waited with, travelled strongly, challenged over 1f out, no extra inside final 100 yds; he remains open to improvement and is likely to make a leading miler next spring.

on first outing since leaving Archie Watson, seemed to excel himself over 1f further for a stable in tremendous form, with the draw advantage, but still doing best of those that raced prominently; raced by near-side rail, led, shaken up over 2f out, headed soon after, kept on inside final 1f; he's best given credit for his effort for the time being.

was on softer ground than previously, but essentially seemed beaten on merit, coming from a similar position to the first 2; held up, effort 3f out, headway after, no extra well inside final 1f; he has plenty about him physically, which would encourage hopes for next year.

failed to find the improvement expected for the step up to 7f, ridden close to the pace, perhaps finding the return to softer ground against him, overall shaping a bit better than the bare result; close up, travelled well, shaken up over 2f out, every chance over 1f out, not quicken; he remains with potential, certainly worth another try at this trip.

ran poorly, though not much went right for him and he's best forgiven this, given his overall profile, some strong form to his name; held up, travelled well though hung right, not clear run over 2f out, shaken up approaching final 1f, no extra, not persevered with once held; he'll presumably have the Greenham as an aim next spring.

All 14 ran.

Winning Owner: Mr D. Smith, Mrs J. Magnier, Mr M. Tabor

Time: 1m 25.24s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 36.95s (98.9%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 123%, Betfair SP 100.1%

A fascinating renewal of the premier 2-y-o race of the season, with 5 last-time-out pattern winners, the best of them with form close to the standard for the race, 4 unbeaten runners, this probably the most open running of the race since 2009, the last time there was a double-figure field, though a better race than that one, this form well up to scratch, even if the result left as many questions as answers, the first 3 home the first 3 from the National Stakes at the Curragh but in the reverse order, leaving an intriguing puzzle to unravel over the long winter months; incidentally, as with the Fillies' Mile winner the day before, the winner was due to run at Longchamp the previous weekend but was withdrawn over concerns that he could potentially test positive for a prohibited substance due to contaminated feed.

ST MARK'S BASILICA (FR) has clearly been held in high regard this year and finally fully delivered, showing a very smart level of form, entitling him to be at the head of the Guineas market, though a rematch with the placed horses and some of those beaten further down the field with excuses will be something to savour; held up, travelled well, effort 3f out, led 2f out, kept on well final 1f; he's sure to make an impact in the best races around 1m next year.

THUNDER MOON (IRE) couldn't confirm placings from the National Stakes with the first 2, but he'll certainly make more of a race of it with them in the Guineas, again impressing with how he went through the race, but having to do plenty of running out wide and tiring late on in the conditions, the scenario rather different to last time; waited with, travelled strongly, challenged over 1f out, no extra inside final 100 yds; he remains open to improvement and is likely to make a leading miler next spring.

TACTICAL was well held, facing a stiff task over 1f further, this perhaps a race too far, so soon after the Middle Park; in rear, ridden over 2f out, made little impression.

ETONIAN (IRE) needed to find more at this level but just didn't run any sort of race, looking ill at ease on softer ground; held up, labouring soon after halfway.
