was down in grade for the first time this year, but proved better than ever, conceding weight to high-class older rivals, showing plenty of determination after getting a bit tapped for foot when the pace increased; in touch, shaken up halfway, not quicken, rallied 2f out, led over 1f out, kept on, ridden out; he's a high-class performer, and will be a formidable opponent for Palace Pier at Ascot, the clash very much one to savour.

has run some really good races in amongst some lesser efforts this year, this definitely one of the former, even if he's slightly flattered by the way the race unfolded, doing his best work late on; held up, off the bridle before most, headway approaching final 1f, closed all the way to the line.

couldn't repeat his triumph of last year, though he ran a fine race again after 7 months off, perhaps just needing this to put him spot on, though he'd be pushed to reverse placings with the winner on worse terms were they to meet again at Ascot; led, travelled well, shaken up over 2f out, headed over 1f out, kept on, not quicken late on.

up in class, shaped encouragingly after 8 weeks off, likely to doing even better another day on a different track, seeming ill at ease and wandering when let down; tracked pace, travelled well, shaken up over 2f out, lost place soon after, kept on again final 100 yds; remains open to improvement and, given his physique, the type to do well if kept in training at 4 yrs.

runner-up in the 2018 running, was below form after 5 weeks off, just found wanting in a strong race for the grade; held up, shaken up halfway, left behind over 2f out.

attracted support, even though this was much his toughest task to date, and he was unable to make the step up in class, essentially outclassed after looking to pose more of a threat shortly after halfway; close up, shaken up 3f out, weakened over 2f out.

A crackerjack of a contest, really strong for the grade, a genuine Group 1 performer defying a penalty in gritty fashion against a pair of older rivals who were on song, the winner setting up a fascinating clash with Palace Pier at Ascot.

KAMEKO (USA) was down in grade for the first time this year, but proved better than ever, conceding weight to high-class older rivals, showing plenty of determination after getting a bit tapped for foot when the pace increased; in touch, shaken up halfway, not quicken, rallied 2f out, led over 1f out, kept on, ridden out; he's a high-class performer, and will be a formidable opponent for Palace Pier at Ascot, the clash very much one to savour.
