With the dominant Blue Point retired on the back of his Diamond Jubilee win the door was ajar for the 3-y-os to break through to the top sprint scene here but their dominance was still a surprise, some of the key older horses disappointing on the day, and the first 5 places were all filled by the younger generation; the field split into 2 groups, with 5 coming down the stands side and rest central, but it was an even track on the day, albeit apparently tough to make up ground from a long way back.

TEN SOVEREIGNS (IRE) was very strong in the betting to bounce back from a below-expectations effort in the Commonwealth Cup and more than justified it, producing a big personal best to comfortably turn Ascot form around with Advertise, the faster ground perhaps more his optimum - he is a fluent mover - whilst maybe he was just more tuned in to sprinting again after being prepared for the Guineas in the spring; he raced down the centre and was ridden quite aggressively, reminiscent of U S Navy Flag in the same colours 12 months ago, leading until halfway and again over 1f out (headed only by one on the stands side), then after a brief point of looking vulnerable he stayed on strongly up the hill and was well on top at the finish; he's entered in the Nunthorpe and the Sprint Cup already, likely to be hard to beat in the latter if he can reproduce this calibre of performance, though the former is first on the agenda and, while that's a much greater test of speed, the chances are that he'll cope, rated behind only Battaash (who has disappointed on his 2 tries in the race) among those entered.

ADVERTISE came up against a totally different Ten Sovereigns than he had at Royal Ascot and, though not quite matching that last performance, this was a very good effort back on firmer ground with the blinkers retained, doing nothing at all wrong; prominent, pushed along over 2f out, chased leader inside final 1f, kept on, no impression on winner; he seems sure to go well in the other big 6f races.

FAIRYLAND (IRE) seems most comfortable at this trip and ran up to her best racing over 6f for the first time this year, faring best of the smaller group that came stand side; chased leaders, travelled better than most, every chance over 1f out, edged left, one paced.

PRETTY POLLYANNA coped well with the drop back to 6f, emerging with credit, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests because she ran an inefficient race after a tardy start; slowly into stride, tracked pace after 1f, close up 2f out, left behind final 1f.

SO PERFECT (USA) wasn't quite up to the task trying a Group 1 for the first time this season but ran creditably and will probably be winning when her sights are lowered again; raced centre, mid-division, not quicken over 1f out, kept on.

LIM'S CRUISER (AUS) ran better than he had in the Diamond Jubilee but still was nearwhere near up to the task; raced centre, held up, headway under pressure over 1f out, never a threat.

BRANDO had been placed in the previous 2 renewals of this race but isn't at the same level this year, his Hamilton win looking weak form; raced centre, held up, headway over 1f out, effort flattened out.

GLORIOUS JOURNEY who faced a stiff task, shaped as if still in good form, doing too much in the middle of the race; dwelt, raced stand side, chased leaders after 2f, led halfway, headed over 1f out, no extra.

MAJOR JUMBO has had a good season up to this point and simply wasn't up to this better company; raced stand side, led group, close up 2f out, weakened final 1f.

DREAM OF DREAMS (IRE) arrived in the form of his life but wasn't in the same form as he had been at Royal Ascot, this track maybe not so suitable for him (down the field on only previous visit here too), his track position not ideal either; raced stand side, in rear, held when switched inside final 1f, made no impression; he's worth another chance in a top sprint.

CAPE BYRON disappointed on the back of a big effort at Royal Ascot, that form having been well advertised subsequently; raced centre, tracked pace, lost place over 1f out, weakened.

LIMATO (IRE) struggles in the Group 1s these days and was well held; raced stand side, held up, effort 2f out, weakened final 1f.
