after 7 months off, is lightly raced for his age and proved better than ever, tried beyond 1m for the first time, a good turn of foot from off of a good pace proving the key; held up, travelled well, switched over 2f out, quickened to lead 1f out, in command soon after, pushed out; he holds a Lockinge entry (amiss when well held in last year's race) and would certainly be an interesting contender if taking his chance.

ran creditably in his bid to repeat last year's victory in this race, doing best of those that raced handily; chased leader, ridden over 2f out, every chance 1f out, not quicken, kept on close home; he'll presumably go next for the Huxley Stakes at Chester, a race he won last year.

easy to back, looked as if the race would bring him on and shaped encouragingly after 6 months off, conceding 5 lb to all his rivals; in rear, travelled well, headway 3f out, pushed along 2f out, kept on, never landed a blow; like the winner (whom he beat in a Group 2 here last autumn), he holds a Lockinge entry, deserving of a chance at Group 1 level in Britain, given his very smart and consistent form.

who'd had a breathing operation after his underwhelming end to the last campaign, shaped as if retaining plenty of ability after 8 months off, leaving the firm impression he'll prove best over further this time round; disputed lead, outpaced over 2f out, plugged on final 1f.

ran below the level of the form he showed at Meydan, even though the race was run to suit him, the impression given that the trip was on the short side; raced off the pace, ridden over 2f out, plugged on final 1f, never dangerous.

wasn't disgraced, asked to do a bit too much in front, showing enough to suggest he'll be competitive at this level at least over the summer; led, ridden over 2f out, headed over 1f out, weakened final 1f.

gelded since last seen, sweated up beforehand (has run well when doing so in the past) and ran poorly after 8 months off, in keeping with his form last year, which was decidedly patchy; in touch, labouring 3f out, lost place soon after, eased off; anyone's guess what he will do next time.

Winning Owner: Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum

Time: 1m 52.43s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 37.20s (100.7%)

A competitive, up-to-scratch renewal of this Grade 3, most of the field well established, the race run at a good gallop, a change of tactics on the winner drawing a career-best, the form having a solid look to it.

ZABEEL PRINCE (IRE) after 7 months off, is lightly raced for his age and proved better than ever, tried beyond 1m for the first time, a good turn of foot from off of a good pace proving the key; held up, travelled well, switched over 2f out, quickened to lead 1f out, in command soon after, pushed out; he holds a Lockinge entry (amiss when well held in last year's race) and would certainly be an interesting contender if taking his chance.

FOREST RANGER (IRE) ran creditably in his bid to repeat last year's victory in this race, doing best of those that raced handily; chased leader, ridden over 2f out, every chance 1f out, not quicken, kept on close home; he'll presumably go next for the Huxley Stakes at Chester, a race he won last year.

MUSTASHRY easy to back, looked as if the race would bring him on and shaped encouragingly after 6 months off, conceding 5 lb to all his rivals; in rear, travelled well, headway 3f out, pushed along 2f out, kept on, never landed a blow; like the winner (whom he beat in a Group 2 here last autumn), he holds a Lockinge entry, deserving of a chance at Group 1 level in Britain, given his very smart and consistent form.

ELARQAM who'd had a breathing operation after his underwhelming end to the last campaign, shaped as if retaining plenty of ability after 8 months off, leaving the firm impression he'll prove best over further this time round; disputed lead, outpaced over 2f out, plugged on final 1f.

FIRST NATION ran below the level of the form he showed at Meydan, even though the race was run to suit him, the impression given that the trip was on the short side; raced off the pace, ridden over 2f out, plugged on final 1f, never dangerous.

FIRST CONTACT (IRE) wasn't disgraced, asked to do a bit too much in front, showing enough to suggest he'll be competitive at this level at least over the summer; led, ridden over 2f out, headed over 1f out, weakened final 1f.

ROBIN OF NAVAN (FR) shaped a lot better than at Kempton, though again doing a bit too much in front, but beaten only late on and shaping as if retaining all his ability; prominent, led briefly over 1f out, weakened.

CIRCUS COUTURE (IRE) was up against it in this company and didn't go as if in much form, just 5 days on from finishing well held in a competitive handicap; held up, labouring over 3f out.

VINTAGER stable third string on jockey bookings if not the market, sweated up beforehand and ran poorly after 8 weeks off, yet to find his form for his new yard; handy, labouring 3f out, weakened 2f out.

FAJJAJ (IRE) gelded since last seen, sweated up beforehand (has run well when doing so in the past) and ran poorly after 8 months off, in keeping with his form last year, which was decidedly patchy; in touch, labouring 3f out, lost place soon after, eased off; anyone's guess what he will do next time.
