The form of this year's Nell Gwyn looks solid rather than strong, the first and second from the Oh So Sharp - including the well-established Angel's Hideaway - finishing placed, but that's not to say the trial didn't produce a genuine 1000 Guineas contender, Qabala impressing with the ground she made up in the final 2f in a race that was only run at an ordinary gallop, all on just her second start.

QABALA (USA) had overcome the run of the race to beat a number of subsequent winners on debut and took this immediate rise in class well in her stride after 7 months off having been very well backed late on, making her Group 3-winning stablemate look pretty pedestrian in the final 2f having come from further back in a race that wasn't really set up for closers; slowly into stride, mid-field, got gap under 2f out, good headway over 1f out, quickened to lead approaching last ½f, responded well; likely to go on improving and is definitely one for the shortlist in an open-looking Guineas.

MOT JUSTE (USA) easy to back, ran well but failed to improve after 6 months off, not having the speed to match her stablemate late on, though she's bred to get a fair bit further than this and will remain with potential with that in mind, from a family that do progress well with age, too; mid-field, good headway from 2f out, produced to lead over 1f out, left behind by winner approaching last ½f, kept on.

ANGEL'S HIDEAWAY (IRE) was beaten by Mot Juste again (this time off level weights) but wasn't seen to best effect after 6 months off; missed the break, in rear, smooth headway out wide from 2f out, threatened entering final 1f, one paced, not ideally placed; she had plenty of racing last season and it's hard to think she'll have masses more to offer as a 3-y-o.

LOOK AROUND got straight back on track after 8 months off, this a more solid piece of form than her listed win (where she had the run of the race); awkward leaving stalls, raced off the pace, outpaced 2f out, kept on well, took fourth line.

NASHIRAH settled better than last time having been ridden more patiently and showed improved form after 11 weeks off; headway under pressure from 3f out, wandered under 2f out, threatened over 1f out, faded, effort flattened out.

ORCHID STAR back down in trip returning to turf, was found out in better company after 9 weeks off despite getting a good pitch on the rail; raced near side, made running, pushed along over 2f out, headed over 1f out, faded.

MAIN EDITION (IRE) underperformed, possibly in need of the run after 7 months off; prominent, took keen hold, pushed along over 2f out, faded over 1f out; she achieved plenty in the early part of her juvenile season but does have the physique to think she'll train on.

COME ON LEICESTER (IRE) isn't bred to get this far and was too free after 6 months off; awkward leaving stalls, mid-field, pulled hard, beaten over 2f out, not persevered with once held.

MISTRESS OF LOVE (USA) might have needed the run but probably just found this too competitive back up in grade after 5 months off; mid-field, weakening when snatched up under 2f out, not persevered with once held.

MERCENARY ROSE (IRE) didn't do anything on debut to suggest she was up to this sort of level but was too free over this 2f longer trip in any case after 4 months off; prominent, pulled hard, faded from 2f out.

SUNDAY STAR had chased home the second and third in the Oh So Sharp Stakes but disappointed after 6 months off; in touch, pushed along over 2f out, weakened over 1f out, soon beaten.
