went one better than last time switched to a nursery and is progressing well now his stamina is being tested; mid-field, pushed along under 4f out, headway from 2f out, stayed on to lead entering final 100 yds; will be suited by 1½m+ and will go on improving through the ranks in handicaps next year.

was making his nursery debut and ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before, not so stoutly bred as the winner, and essentially outstayed by that rival having looked the most likely winner over 1f out; chased leaders, led over 2f out, headed inside final 100 yds, no extra; he might also have benefited from having his challenge delayed a bit longer and is certainly open to further improvement.

back on firmer ground, wasted no time getting back on track, having no problem with this even longer trip, also proving his versatility with regards tactics, ridden more patiently than previously; slowly into stride, held up, effort over 2f out, late headway; he's open to further improvement.

was in a change of headgear (blinkers replacing cheekpieces) and returned to form, putting to bed any theory that he needs softer ground, but he continues to look a difficult ride and his temperament is under suspicion after this; chased leaders, pulled hard, effort 3f out, wandered and carried head awkwardly over 1f out, not quicken.

was up in the weights and in a stronger race than last time and wasn't in quite the same form, though the way he went through this race gives the impression he might have a bit of a lazy streak as much as a lack of pace; mid-field, off the bridle before most, wandered over 1f out, not quicken; he's a candidate for headgear sooner rather than later.

has been harshly dealt with by the handicapper, no chances taken with his Pontefract win, meaning he was forced to give weight to Fearless Warrior despite finishing behind him at Kempton last month, but ran ran below form anyway; held up, ridden over 3f out, weakened 2f out.

All 9 ran.

Winning Owner: Mr Norman Brunskill

Time: 2m 3.34s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 36.95s (100.1%)

A fairly useful nursery and it looks a race that is likely to work out, the majority still building up to next year, when even longer trips will be in their favour, Skymax grinding his way past his stablemate in the last 100 yds, the runner-up arguably pressing on sooner than ideal.

SKYMAX (GER) went one better than last time switched to a nursery and is progressing well now his stamina is being tested; mid-field, pushed along under 4f out, headway from 2f out, stayed on to lead entering final 100 yds; will be suited by 1½m+ and will go on improving through the ranks in handicaps next year.

FEARLESS WARRIOR (FR) was making his nursery debut and ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before, not so stoutly bred as the winner, and essentially outstayed by that rival having looked the most likely winner over 1f out; chased leaders, led over 2f out, headed inside final 100 yds, no extra; he might also have benefited from having his challenge delayed a bit longer and is certainly open to further improvement.

NAYEF ROAD (IRE) back on firmer ground, wasted no time getting back on track, having no problem with this even longer trip, also proving his versatility with regards tactics, ridden more patiently than previously; slowly into stride, held up, effort over 2f out, late headway; he's open to further improvement.

BO SAMRAAN (IRE) sweated up beforehand but returned to something like his debut form on his nursery debut; disputed lead, ridden 3f out, headed 2f out, kept on; he'll stay further than this next year if his pedigree is anything to go by.

MACHELL PLACE was in a change of headgear (blinkers replacing cheekpieces) and returned to form, putting to bed any theory that he needs softer ground, but he continues to look a difficult ride and his temperament is under suspicion after this; chased leaders, pulled hard, effort 3f out, wandered and carried head awkwardly over 1f out, not quicken.

PREFONTAINE (IRE) was up in the weights and in a stronger race than last time and wasn't in quite the same form, though the way he went through this race gives the impression he might have a bit of a lazy streak as much as a lack of pace; mid-field, off the bridle before most, wandered over 1f out, not quicken; he's a candidate for headgear sooner rather than later.

MAJOR SNUGFIT faced a stiff task from 1 lb out of the handicap and will be better off back down in grade; held up, pushed along over 4f out, made no impression; he should stay this sort of trip.
