has had a good season, most consistent, and defied a penalty to go one better than in this corresponding race 12 months ago; led 1f, remained prominent, upsides 4f out, led again over 2f out and stayed on strongly; he'll probably aim for the Long Distance Cup again but will be vulnerable back up in grade.

remains in good form but underlined exactly why he's winless over the past 2 seasons, looming up and looking the winner (matched at a low of 1.3 in-running on Betfair) but not remotely keen when ridden; waited with, travelled strongly, headway 3f out, chased leader over 1f out, hung right, not run on; although he's been a fantastic servant to connections over the years after this show of temperament he needs treating with caution.

hasn't repeated what he appeared to achieve at Goodwood on either start since but given that was a 3-runner race with an ordinary timefigure it's not the most robust form and he probably just wasn't up to this task against an established pair of older stayers; soon led, took keen hold, joined 4f out, headed over 2f out, left behind.

possibly needed the run on his first outing since leaving John Patrick Shanahan after 13 months off; in touch, pushed along over 3f out, edged left, weakened 2f out.

An uncompetitive renewal of this listed staying contest with only 5 lining up and Nearly Caught only had to run up to his best recent form to win with authority, his attitude much better than the second.

NEARLY CAUGHT (IRE) has had a good season, most consistent, and defied a penalty to go one better than in this corresponding race 12 months ago; led 1f, remained prominent, upsides 4f out, led again over 2f out and stayed on strongly; he'll probably aim for the Long Distance Cup again but will be vulnerable back up in grade.
