The second of 4 Group 2 races at 7f in the space of about 6 weeks, Pogo, third in the first of them, the Lennox Stakes, sent off favourite, but not quite at his best, the winner better than ever up in grade, the race rather a messy one, with the field splitting into 2 groups, a couple switching sides after 2f, the race well enough run and 2 of the first 3 coming from off the pace, the form overall probably a little below standard for the race.

JUMBY (IRE) had some rock-solid handicap efforts to his name and translated the form to pattern company, better than ever in fact, the run of the race looking to suit him; waited with, travelled well, effort 2f out, led inside final 1f, quickened clear, had bit in hand; he's in the City of York and the Park Stakes, York just a week away, though he has won off a 10-day break in his younger days.

DUBAI POET ran creditably, sticking to his task in gutsy fashion to take second after losing the lead more than 1f out, an entry in the Park Stakes suggesting that's his next target; led, shaken up over 2f out, headed over 1f out, kept on close home.

WINGS OF WAR (IRE) ran well over 7f for the first time and might have done even better had his effort begun sooner, some potential to improve a bit at the trip, now that he's shown he stays it; held up, travelled well, still plenty to do over 2f out, ridden over 1f out, kept on well last ½f, took third close home.

PRIMO BACIO (IRE) turned in her best effort of the year, typically smooth through the race, just lacking a turn of foot off the bridle; close up, travelled well, led briefly over 1f out, not quicken close home.

POGO (IRE) was a bit below form, one of 3 that stayed in the centre and possibly at a disadvantage, though also possible that a couple of tough races had just taken the edge off of him; close up, shaken up 3f out, not quicken well inside final 1f.

TIBER FLOW (IRE) back up in trip, ran respectably, looking more himself without the cheekpieces, one of 3 that stayed in the centre and perhaps at a slight disadvantage in doing so; tracked pace, shaken up over 2f out, every chance entering final 1f, not quicken late on.

HAPPY ROMANCE (IRE) was below form, proving a little difficult to place at present, 7f probably not her optimum trip, but not good enough essentially; held up, shaken up over 2f out, hung left, made little impression.

CHINDIT (IRE) was back at an easier level, but turned in one of his lesser efforts; handy, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken.

RUN TO FREEDOM ran no sort of race and was possibly amiss, though nothing was reported to the stewards; slowly into stride, held up, labouring halfway, eased.
