A traditional Guineas trial, featuring 3 who'd made quite an impact at 2 yrs, a pair of dual Group 1 winners, as well as the winner of the July Stakes and the Gimcrack, that trio filling the placings, though the proximity of the fourth and fifth suggests the winner didn't have to improve on his juvenile form to prevail, running to a level a bit below the best of the Guineas contenders.

PERFECT POWER (IRE) made a winning return, justifying good support, and seeing out the 1f longer trip with no trouble, shaping as if he'll stay 1m, clearly worth his place in a classic, though the Poulains might be a more realistic option than the Guineas; tracked pace, shaken up 2f out, led inside final 1f, in command soon after, had bit in hand.

LUSAIL (IRE) looked to have done well since last year and shaped encouragingly, conceding first run to the winner, enough in his effort to suggest a successful campaign at 6f/7f below the highest level; held up, travelled well, effort 2f out, edged right, kept on inside final 1f, took second close home.

ANGEL BLEU (FR) shaped as if retaining all his ability after 6 months off, a switch to front running faced with less emphasis on stamina possibly not ideal, tending to race choke out, likely to come on for this; led, took strong hold, shaken up under 2f out, headed inside final 1f, not quicken, kept on close home.

GUBBASS (IRE) had been highly tried after winning the Super Sprint here, showing himself useful, and he ran well again on his return, doing good work late on and certainly seeming effective at the longer trip; in rear, headway over 1f out, kept on, nearest at the finish; he may not be the easiest to place, but this was certainly an encouraging return.

THE WIZARD OF EYE (IRE) continues to be overfaced and ran about as well as could have been expected, back at pattern level in Europe; prominent, shaken up under 3f out, edged left, not quicken final 1f.

FLAMING RIB (IRE) was below form on first outing for his new trainer (previously trained by Tom Dascombe), a bit too keen over an extra 1f despite the fitting of a hood, bred to stay this far but still to prove it; slowly into stride, held up, not settle fully, headway under 2f out, shaken up over 1f out, no extra.
