Only 3 of these had a run behind them and the conditions weren't easy for inexperienced horses, plenty of them needing the race in one way or another, but as you expect at Newbury it's full of well-bred types and ought to be a race that produces winners/improvers.

POLITICISE (IRE) had clearly learnt plenty from debut, too green to show anything only 8 days ago but a different proposition this time, looking very much at home on the testing ground too; made all, travelled well, ridden when tackled over 1f out, kept going well, looked willing; he will stay 1m and is open to further improvement.

PHOSPHOR (IRE) (50,000Y: by Havana Gold: fifth foal: half-brother to 3 winners, including 2-y-o 6f winner Zifena (by Zamindar) and useful 7f (including at 2 yrs) winner Aventinus (by Zoffany): dam 5f-6f winner) who attracted support, made some appeal on paper, related to 2-y-o winners, and he showed plenty of ability, his rating good enough to win most similar event, pulling clear with one that had the benefit of experience; bumped start, prominent, shaken up 2f out, every chance final 1f, kept on well, pulled clear of remainder; he's sure to progress and win races.

PENRHOS (70,000Y: by Kodiac: first foal: dam, maiden (stayed 7f), sister to smart 2-y-o 5f-1m winner Hearts of Fire) made a promising start to his career, impressing with a big move from the back before lack of sharpness told; in rear, travelled smoothly, good headway over 2f out, chased leaders approaching final 1f, one paced, not knocked about; he'll improve, possibly a lot.

MARDLE (35,000F, £30,000Y: by Mukhadram: half-brother to several winners, including useful 1m-16.4f winner Saigon City (by Mount Nelson) and 1m winner Khe Sanh (by Mtoto): dam winner up to 1m (2-y-o 5f/6f winner)) is bred to stay well and shaped in kind, set to learn plenty from the experience too; prominent, outpaced over 2f out, kept on, not unduly punished; will be suited by 1m+ and is open to improvement.

IFTON (42,000Y: by Iffraaj: third foal: dam smart 7f winner (runner-up in Chartwell Stakes)) made some appeal on pedigree, the first of the progeny of a 116 Timeform-rated mare to make the track, and he shaped very well amidst inexperience; mid-division, lost place when ran green over 2f out, finished with a flourish under a hands-and-heels ride; he's open to significant improvement.

DARGEL (IRE) (45,000Y: by Dark Angel: sixth foal: brother to 7f winner Rux Ruxx and half-brother to 2-y-o 6f/7f winner Karma Police and 12.4f-1¾m winner The Resdev Way (both by Multiplex): dam maiden (stayed 1m)) showed promise and should be sharper for the run; mid-division, chased leaders over 1f out, effort flattened out, considerately handled; likely to improve.

KAAFY (IRE) (32,000F, £85,000Y: by Alhebayeb: second foal: dam unraced half-sister to smart 1¼m-1¾m winner Tranquil Tiger out of useful 1m winner Serene View) shaped as if better for the run, given a considerate introduction; dropped out, travelled well, headway over 2f out, weakened final 1f, not knocked about; he's by a first season sire that hasn't pulled up any trees, which tempers enthusiasm, but should improve nonetheless.

TELL WILLIAM (60,000Y: by Invincible Spirit: first foal: dam, 1m winner, half-sister to winner up to 6f Swiss Diva and winner up to 6f Swiss Spirit (both smart) out of smart winner up to 5f (including at 2 yrs) Swiss Lake) is bred more for speed than stamina, mostly sprinters in the family, this test possibly too much for him, plus he's likely to come on for the first run (entitled to progress); close up, pushed along over 2f out, weakened final 1f.

LONDON EYE (USA) (by Australia: half-brother to 3 winners, including smart US 2-y-o Grade 1 7f winner Circular Quay (later US Grade 2 8.5f/9f winner, by Thunder Gulch): dam US winner up to 7f (including Grade 1 event and also 2-y-o 5.5f winner)) is bred in the purple and showed plenty to work on, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests; mid-division, chased leaders over 2f out, faded final 1f, not unduly punished; he's the type to do much better.

BADER (£70,000Y: by Elusive City: first foal: dam useful French winner up to 1m (2-y-o 6f winner)) was held back by inexperience; in touch, ran green halfway, dropped away; should improve.

FAST ART (IRE) did no better for debut, still green; held up, took strong hold, never on terms; needs another run for a mark.

FRANKADORE (IRE) disappointed bearing in mind debut promise, possibly unsuited by conditions; close up, weakened over 1f out; worth another chance.

KING OF THE RING (£47,000Y: by Sepoy: fourth foal: half-brother to 1m winner Akeed Dubawi (by Dubawi): dam ungenuine 2-y-o 5f winner) shaped as if needing the run all round; close up, not settle fully, lost place 2f out, weakened.

DON DIEGO VEGA (41,000F, £28,000Y: by Toronado: closely related to 1m-1¾m winner The Blue Dog (by High Chaparral) and half-brother to several winners, including smart winner up to 7f Golden Desert (2-y-o 6f winner, by Desert Prince) and useful 7f-1m winner (stays 1½m) Stosur (by Mount Nelson): dam 7f winner) showed only greenness; slowly into stride, struggling halfway, always behind.
