took a further step up in grade in his stride, likely to continue to give a good account, a novice at Cheltenham in March a realistic target; prominent main group, travelled well, led on bridle approaching last, kept up to work.

upped in trip and grade, was much improved from debut win, coping well with the company, just lacking the pace of the winner; held up, travelled well, mistake fourth, headway 3 out, kept on well run-in, no impression on winner; he's very much a chaser on looks and is a smashing long-term prospect, though he should continue to do well over hurdles this winter.

back down in trip, confirmed previous form, though put in his place once the principals made their move; chased leader, shaken up 3 out, every chance next, kept on; he's clearly a useful novice.

up in grade, matched his previous form, leaving the impression he'd have benefited from more emphasis on stamina; prominent main group, shaken up before 3 out, not quicken approaching next; remains with potential.

back up in trip, seemed to excel himself in face of a very stiff task, given plenty of rope in front, reverted to front-running tactics, likely to be flattered to some degree, his fate in the hands of the handicapper; led, went with zest, headed approaching last, weakened run-in.

ran poorly without the hood this time, showing clear signs of going the wrong way; in rear, went in snatches, mistake first, left behind straight; he's worth a try in different headgear, but his attitude is firmly under suspicion.

A competitive running of this Grade 1 novice, even if the standard set by the best in the field was a little short of the level often required to win the race; the pace was good, but the first 2 bided their time and the pacemaker Major Mac may still be flattered as a result.

MESSIRE DES OBEAUX (FR) took a further step up in grade in his stride, likely to continue to give a good account, a novice at Cheltenham in March a realistic target; prominent main group, travelled well, led on bridle approaching last, kept up to work.

BALTAZAR D'ALLIER (FR) upped in trip and grade, was much improved from debut win, coping well with the company, just lacking the pace of the winner; held up, travelled well, mistake fourth, headway 3 out, kept on well run-in, no impression on winner; he's very much a chaser on looks and is a smashing long-term prospect, though he should continue to do well over hurdles this winter.

AMI DESBOIS (FR) back down in trip, confirmed previous form, though put in his place once the principals made their move; chased leader, shaken up 3 out, every chance next, kept on; he's clearly a useful novice.

ELEGANT ESCAPE (IRE) up in grade, matched his previous form, leaving the impression he'd have benefited from more emphasis on stamina; prominent main group, shaken up before 3 out, not quicken approaching next; remains with potential.

CULTIVATOR ran poorly without the hood this time, showing clear signs of going the wrong way; in rear, went in snatches, mistake first, left behind straight; he's worth a try in different headgear, but his attitude is firmly under suspicion.

PEAK TO PEAK (IRE) was found out by the step up in grade, flying too high too soon; in rear, hit second, left behind straight.

ROBIN ROE (IRE) after 9 weeks off, failed to complete, suffering an injury to his knee that is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season; dropped out, travelled well, yet to be asked for effort when fell 3 out.
