clearly hadn't been seen to best advantage at Sandown, but a similar ride paid dividends in this rather different situation, at least as good as ever, reunited with Atzeni for the first time since they won the Dewhurst together; dived left leaving stalls, held up, headway over 1f out, switched, stayed on to lead final 50 yds; clearly capable of high-class form, though seen to optimum advantage when one or 2 others possibly weren't and will find it tougher next time.

ran up to her best, just run out of it late on; in touch, travelled well, produced to lead over 1f out, ridden after, edged right, headed final 50 yds; she has the option of being aimed at fillies races, with the Duke of Cambridge and Falmouth obvious possibilities.

not seen since giving Gleneagles a race in the Irish Two Thousand Guineas, ran a really promising race after 12 months off, likely to prove better than ever this season, with a superb, powerful physique, just the type to make up for lost time at 4 yrs; waited with, travelled well, headway over 2f out, challenged final 1f, not quicken final 50 yds; one to be interested in again.

shaped well after 7 months off over 1f longer trip, the performance one to view positively for the campaign ahead, lack of fitness as likely an explanation as lack of stamina, though he wouldn't be inconvenienced by a drop back to 6f/7f; soon steadied, travelled smoothly, headway 2f out, ridden over 1f out, no extra; sure to come on for run and set for another good season.

failed to meet expectations, perhaps his exertions at Sandown, when supposedly short of full fitness, having taken the edge off of him, unable to match that effort in a more competitive race (though leading at a similar point) or to match his second in last year's renewal; chased leader, travelled well, led 3f out, ridden 2f out, headed over 1f out, no extra; type to bounce back quickly.

Quantity rather than absolute quality was the watchword in this prestigious and very valuable Group 1, a race run at a good pace, the winner a deserving one on the day, though his success wasn't a decisive or better-than-average one, and the reappearing third and fourth are as interesting going forward.

BELARDO (IRE) clearly hadn't been seen to best advantage at Sandown, but a similar ride paid dividends in this rather different situation, at least as good as ever, reunited with Atzeni for the first time since they won the Dewhurst together; dived left leaving stalls, held up, headway over 1f out, switched, stayed on to lead final 50 yds; clearly capable of high-class form, though seen to optimum advantage when one or 2 others possibly weren't and will find it tougher next time.
