less exposed than rest, had been given a generous mark on his hurdles form and took full advantage, seeing things out really well; in touch, travelled well, led on bridle last, shaken up run-in, kept going well; may yet have more to offer as a chaser, the Plate at Cheltenham under a penalty likely to be next up.

ran well, runner-up in this race for the second year running, off a mark 7 lb higher this time round; chased leader, led twelfth, headed 2 out, every chance still last, kept on; will presumably be aimed at the Topham and clearly enters calculations, given his record over the National fences.

has had a good season in France and ran creditably on his British debut, looking competitive off this mark, others just finishing more strongly after he'd travelled as well as any; held up, headway before twelfth, every chance from 3 out, led between last 2, no extra run-in.

This tends to be a relatively weak race for a Grade 3, the proximity to the Cheltenham Festival the obvious reason; it's a race which Paul Nicholls has farmed over the years, the depth in his stable enabling him to have a broader focus than some yards, and he provided the winner again, the least exposed in the line-up coming out on top; the pace was good and the first 5 were all in with a chance going to the last, the form solid rather than strong.

SAMETEGAL (FR) less exposed than rest, had been given a generous mark on his hurdles form and took full advantage, seeing things out really well; in touch, travelled well, led on bridle last, shaken up run-in, kept going well; may yet have more to offer as a chaser, the Plate at Cheltenham under a penalty likely to be next up.
