making handicap debut, showed much improved form, clearly well served by a race of this nature; prominent, travelled well, chased leader after fifth, led under pressure approaching last, stayed on strongly run-in; isn't entered in the novices at Cheltenham, but the Top Novices' at Aintree might be an option, given he'll be much higher in the weights for handicaps after this (regarded as needing soft/heavy ground, though).

in a first-time tongue strap after 10 months off (also reported to have had wind operation since last season), ran creditably on softer ground than previously on his first outing since leaving Donald McCain, likely to have finished a couple of lengths closer without a last-flight blunder; close up, travelled well, led fifth, ridden before 2 out, headed approaching last, held when bad mistake there; potentially on a good mark and could well be interesting in the Imperial Cup.

All 22 ran. Hurdles: 8. Race Distance Adjustment: +44 yds

Winning Owner: The Gascoigne Brookes Partnership III

Time: 4m 8.8s Closing Sectional: (4.05f): 63.00s (96.9%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 135%, Betfair SP 100.9%

A typically strong renewal of the richest handicap hurdle of the season, featuring plenty of unexposed sorts from both sides of the Irish Sea and little reason not to take a positive view of the form, the first 4 all potentially unexposed, 3 of them novices, even though there appeared again to be an advantage in racing prominently, the fourth doing really well in the circumstances; there was a rush to the first hurdle after a false start had led to a standing start second time, but the pace steadied somewhat after, the overall gallop seeming sound.

AGRAPART (FR) making handicap debut, showed much improved form, clearly well served by a race of this nature; prominent, travelled well, chased leader after fifth, led under pressure approaching last, stayed on strongly run-in; isn't entered in the novices at Cheltenham, but the Top Novices' at Aintree might be an option, given he'll be much higher in the weights for handicaps after this (regarded as needing soft/heavy ground, though).

STARCHITECT (IRE) in a first-time tongue strap after 10 months off (also reported to have had wind operation since last season), ran creditably on softer ground than previously on his first outing since leaving Donald McCain, likely to have finished a couple of lengths closer without a last-flight blunder; close up, travelled well, led fifth, ridden before 2 out, headed approaching last, held when bad mistake there; potentially on a good mark and could well be interesting in the Imperial Cup.

FLYING ANGEL (IRE) ran well, better placed than most, though the drop back in trip didn't suit ideally; prominent, not quicken entering straight, kept on well after 2 out, no impression on winner; has plenty about him physically and, even less experienced than the pair that beat him, may yet have more to offer.

AFFAIRE D'HONNEUR (FR) did remarkably well to get as close as he did, likely to have been second at worst with a level break, doing easily the best of those held up, being caught out by the standing start clearly no help; dwelt, in rear, still plenty to do early in straight, stayed on strongly, nearest at the finish; remains open to improvement and well up to winning a similar event off this mark.

WAXIES DARGLE ran creditably, more exposed than the quartet that beat him and one of the few to make an impact from off the pace; held up, headway before 3 out, chased leaders approaching last, one paced.

KALKIR (FR) ran respectably, though his was a puzzling performance, not travelling with his usual fluency and losing his position completely on the long run to the straight, perhaps worth a try in headgear; in touch, labouring and lost place after fifth, rallied 2 out, kept on.

CHELTENIAN (FR) couldn't repeat his second placing in last season's running, though ran respectably, this a bit too competitive for him under top weight; waited with, effort straight, kept on, made little impression.

CHAMPAGNE AT TARA ran respectably, doing better than most that tried to come from off the pace; held up, some headway 2 out, never on terms.

ZARIB (IRE) was well held in first-time cheekpieces, better placed than most, but the headgear failing to have the desired effect; prominent, ridden straight, weakened before 2 out.

WAR SOUND less exposed than most, was well held after 9 months off, not ideally served by the run of the race and probably sharper for the run; held up, shaken up early in straight, made no impression; holds a Champion Hurdle entry, but the County would be a more realistic aim.

MODUS making handicap debut, was well held, the run of the race not really suiting him; held up, hampered fourth, never on terms.

BABY KING (IRE) was undone by the standing start; very slowly away, always behind.

MATORICO (IRE) was well held in first-time blinkers, his response to pressure underwhelming; held up, headway home turn, ridden 3 out, no extra.

IVAN GROZNY (FR) was well held, unable to build on his reappearance; chased leaders, hampered fourth, weakened home turn.
