given more of a break (9 weeks), proved better than ever to defy this career-high mark at the third attempt, his longevity and toughness almost a match for his ability, a real credit to connections; waited with, smooth headway 3 out, led on bridle next, 5 lengths clear last, closed down final 1f but merely pushed out by his usual 10-lb claimer; this wasn't a strong race for the grade, however, and opportunities are likely to be limited now given he'll be on a BHA mark of around 150 next time.

was given longer to recover this time and quickly resumed his progress after 6 weeks off, looking better the further he went on only his second start around 3m; in touch, ridden early in straight, not quicken 2 out, rallied well run-in, closed down leader late on having still had 4 lengths to find crossing path on run-in 1f out; he's certainly worth continued campaigning as a stayer.

failed to capitalise on a lesser race back over hurdles, extending a losing run dating back to his chasing debut (odds on for 3-runner novice) in December 2015; chased leader, jumped sketchily, edged ahead soon after 3 out, headed next, tied up late on.

essentially reverted to type 6 weeks on from his rout here, even though a stronger pace would have suited, showing the ability is there but perhaps not the application to be competitive from a reassessed mark 13 lb higher; held up, went in snatches, lost ground 3 out, headway under pressure home turn, carried head bit awkwardly, bad mistake 2 out, rallied, finished with running left.

a winner of his last 2 starts on the Flat, found run of good form coming to a halt returned to hurdling, albeit over a trip at which he's unproven; led until soon after 3 out, brushed aside quickly.

The Tourard Man is evergreen but for him to take the field apart so quickly in the straight tells a tale of some disappointing displays in behind, all in all a substandard handicap for a 0-150; it wasn't a well-run race, either.
