didn't need to be at his best to end a losing run stretching back to early-2018; close up, travelled fluently, led over 2f out, forged clear; this taught us nothing new, but connections suggested that he'll be aimed at the Marathon on all-weather finals day, his best form puting him right in the mix.

set the standard on form but looked rusty after 5 months off, reportedly using this as preparation for a valuable race on the Saudi Cup undercard at the end of February; tracked pace, shuffled back over 2f out, kept on straight.

a smart performer in Germany for J. Hirschberger, was disappointing in a tongue strap after 5 months off, looking awkward, to the extent that he was difficult to steer; led, hung left from 4f out, headed over 2f out, weakened; he has a bit to prove after this.
