in the form of his life, defied a career-high mark to make it 4 handicap wins on the spin, but just like last time, was better placed than most the way things panned out; raced along inside, close up, got gap entering straight, led 1f out, just held on; likely to be forced back into a higher grade next time.

ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before, and deserves extra credit in the circumstances, unsuited by the emphasis on speed at this trip; in rear, still plenty to do 2f out, came wide straight, finished well, just failed; will prove suited by a return to 1½m.

Winning Owner: T W Morley & Mrs J Morley

Time: 2m 6.68s Closing Sectional: (2.00f): 23.00s (110.2%)

A well-contested handicap, but it proved to be a tactical affair, Pactolus just holding on after getting first run on the placed horses.

PACTOLUS (IRE) in the form of his life, defied a career-high mark to make it 4 handicap wins on the spin, but just like last time, was better placed than most the way things panned out; raced along inside, close up, got gap entering straight, led 1f out, just held on; likely to be forced back into a higher grade next time.

CASPAR THE CUB (IRE) back down in trip, again ran well, that despite being unsuited by the way the race developed; mid-division, travelled as well as any, forced wide 2f out, stayed on (second briefly inside final 50 yds).

C NOTE (IRE) ran up to best, albeit seen to something like maximum effect; dictated, shaken up over 2f out, hung right home turn, headed 1f out, no extra.

CALLING OUT (FR) back up in trip, again ran creditably; held up, effort over 3f out, not quicken.

ABE LINCOLN (USA) might have needed the run after 4 months off, a big move into contention exacerbating things; held up, rapid headway out wide end of back straight, faded straight.
