converted recent seconds into another first, front running giving him an extra edge during this spell, equally important here as it has been at Chelmsford the way this race went, never giving up his edge on the pack, but all out, there to be shot at from a higher mark still next time.

has always been a bigger force on AW and his second start back on it saw a full-scale revival, doing well in theory from the last pair, but his track craft came into play, plus he burrowed up the inside, a clear passage there, looking set to roll on by He's No Saint late on, but that one held all the Aces from a tactical perspective.

always that much more interesting on AW, duly back at full power on this second start for the yard after the first at Goodwood, 4 months on, taking a while to wind up down the outer but closing late, hinting that he may not have peaked yet, fairly lightly raced for his age.

different circumstances for him, on the AW (debut) and over 7f (normally keeps to 6f), but his mark is generous these days - the most pertinent point with him - and he was beaten less than a length in fourth, if never closer than at the line; he missed the bulk of the turf season, and this certainly suggests he's good to go this winter.

got plenty out of his flourish, which has topped out now, no longer ahead of the game, but clearly still competitive, going down fighting here, every chance but beaten little distance.

already a few false dawns in his light career, and there were both positives (finished well) and negatives (looked awkward when first driven) to this, but allowances have to be made for the absence (6 months) and new surface; there's improvement still in him, but getting it out of him is probably easier said than done.

should be eligible for 0-80s after this, and he'll have a touch of class for that level, looking in good form for much of this race, just feeling the pinch in the finish against higher-rated rivals.

had shown the time before (off an absence) what he can still do, that race made to look strong in the meantime, but there's always been 2 sides to his character and his heart wasn't really in it this day, held up in the last pair, but the runner-up was the other one.

A useful handicap, but still very much a Lingfield race for the scramble up the straight, He's No Saint having been in pole position, little between many at the line.

HE'S NO SAINT converted recent seconds into another first, front running giving him an extra edge during this spell, equally important here as it has been at Chelmsford the way this race went, never giving up his edge on the pack, but all out, there to be shot at from a higher mark still next time.

SHYRON has always been a bigger force on AW and his second start back on it saw a full-scale revival, doing well in theory from the last pair, but his track craft came into play, plus he burrowed up the inside, a clear passage there, looking set to roll on by He's No Saint late on, but that one held all the Aces from a tactical perspective.

MR BOSSY BOOTS (IRE) always that much more interesting on AW, duly back at full power on this second start for the yard after the first at Goodwood, 4 months on, taking a while to wind up down the outer but closing late, hinting that he may not have peaked yet, fairly lightly raced for his age.

JOEY'S DESTINY (IRE) different circumstances for him, on the AW (debut) and over 7f (normally keeps to 6f), but his mark is generous these days - the most pertinent point with him - and he was beaten less than a length in fourth, if never closer than at the line; he missed the bulk of the turf season, and this certainly suggests he's good to go this winter.
